Keeping a boat in the Canaries (non-resident)

OK. As I understand it, if your stay is under 183 days, no problem. If you buy a boat in Spain and its tax paid there, you will still need to pay Canary tax if you stay over. If you buy a boat in Canaries all tax paid, you are in the sweet spot. Do check with an expert though!

Im in Rubicon. Did spend two years in Calero a while ago living on our yacht. Intend to be there on Wednesday night for a pit stop! Can answer quite a lot of questions about the place if you have them. :encouragement:

Thanks for the info. I visited Rubicon at the end of October to speak with the sailing school there, sea masters I believe it's called. Spoke to the couple there regarding the pb2 and skipper courses both seemed really nice and very helpful.

Do you have any knowledge of the school there, good or bad?

Anything you can give me on Calero marina would be great as that's where we are planning on staying permanently.
Just had a quote back from them actually for the year just to give me an idea and wasn't bad at all!

Those people at Seamaster are totally brilliant, good looking too...........;)

......I work for them.

Re Calero, yup will send you a PM at the weekend, am out teaching at the moment. In Arecife Marina for the night now, it's heaving, lots of rallies.

Sail about!

Was reminded of another Lanzarote anchorage today off the main town of Arrecife. Not large and a bit full just now but sheltered from the prevailing. Would maybe get a bit of traffic noise but might suit a week or two to make a change. We surprised a couple of boats today by sailing round the anchorage. ;)

Cheers, that would be great. Hope the sailings going well.

Re: Warning thread drift!

Thought it was self explanitory.

If you have a current valid UK passport, you are British - if not, you may not be.

Of course, if you have no passport but reside in the UK, the issue doesn’t arise

Mm. Anyway, my last two passports were issued in Gib. That makes for an interesting discussion point at your Residencia interview!! :)

Actually, if you have a current valid British passport which says "British Citizen" under the heading of Nationality, then you are British. Alternatively, you may be a British Protected Person, a British National (overseas), a British Overseas Citizen, and possibly others. None of these amount to full British citizenship. All make the holder subject to UK immigration controls.

I once left UK by ferry (Hull-Rotterdam) without my passport, driving an HGV. Drove round Europe(Denmark,Germany,France,Spain ---
no problem. Resulted in an "interesting" discussion at Dover with the (Pakistani) immigration officer, amid much hilarity from other drivers!
