First thanks to all of you for the kind thoughts over our uninvited guests. Your thoughts have been a real tonic.

Please learn from our lesson.
According to the police too many people knew we go away at the week end. Either through school friends, neighbours, postmen etc. No I'm not blaming then it's just word get's around.
They got in through a fan light and opened the casement window. Yes we forgot to do up the lock on the handle and in they went. They are absolutly sure only kids could have got in that way.
Don't leave anything on display. They went straight for Di's display case jewelry box.

What else can I say except please don't let it happen to you. Best of luck

Chris.

P.S. Buy a bloody great dog, set the man traps and sod the law that protects the villans.

What do you mean the sea gull in front's walking !!!

Sorry to hear what happened. Hope the Insurance coughed up for all that was lost.

Guy was once done for manslaughter for setting live wires round the house and taking the light bulbs out. Shouldnt have called the cops he should have just dumped the body and cleared the traps.

Chris., March 10th 1980 I caught 3 guys trying to take the mascot off my car. I yelled, they went for me, silly move 22 years ago I was pretty fit, I done 'em and done 'em good. I got fined £800 + £40 quid costs.
All I got was the satisfaction.

Been through this earlier this year and I know exactly how you feel. I'd like to tell you the worst is over but now comes the dealing with the insurance company.

Best of luck

Very sorry Cris. It happened to us, earlier on in the year. Except we were in bed at the time. A bit of a shock.

Chris, Sorry to hear it. Not a pleasant experience.

Years ago parents in flat near north end of Blackfriars bridge in London. While in bed. Heard noises up on roof. Called police, and first to arrive was dog handler. Opened doors up to roof, and locked into bedroom. Dog cleared way to roof, and handler found burglars had broken into solicitors firm next door through skylight and went in single handed. Hospitalised and off work for three months, but got them. Came round to see them when he returned to work.

He was chuffed! Hero of the force, first burglars caught in action in City in donkeys years.

Got exemplary service from then on. Called police one night two years later when I was staying there alone and saw torches on roof. Police had entire block surrounded within 5 minutes! Never seen so much action. Turned out to be stupid guards from building next door, who were not supposed to be up there. Police still remembered the address as the place of previous capture, and all gung ho to get another one!

Re It Gets Worse.

I reinsured our works 4x4 toyota pickup only last Thursday. I was sick of the cost of comercial insurance. My broker said if we call it worth £2500 we can insure it for third party for £550.
I thought, stuff it. I'm fed up with paying out. So sent off the cheque.

It just got nicked last night. We did pay 5 grand for it!!! /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Re: Re It Gets Worse.

Shouldn't have put Soltron it... you'd have heard it drive off a or been able to follow the smoke trail....

Has it been recovered yet? Would like to see burglars, car thieves, gvandals etc publically flogged... reckon that would solve a lot of problems with yob culture...

Christ at 34 I am a grumpy old man.. I reckon its owning a boat that does it....

Its an awful experience! we've had one break-in, then got a big dog. - One year later garden doors forced open but they got no further !! Big dog got big bone for that.
Trouble is we lost the old thing a couple of years ago so we're all wired up now, including a 'zone selection' and bedside panic button for night time.
This day and age I'm surprised you're not all wired up.

Re: Re It Gets Worse.

Sorry to here that Haydn. But look on the bright side - if they turned west onto the M62 they'll still be in the roadworks around J19. Pop down on a few motorbikes with some heavies tonight after work and you should be able to get it back.

Anyway it caught on fire didn't it and is burnt so badly it looks like a shell of a burnt out metro that your mate the scrap merchant gave you - if you catch my drift.

The delights of living in Guiernsey, can even leave my fishing rods unlocked in front porch and never touched. No security at all. The day will come when it will have to happen but until then we remain security free. Even down by the boats mooring.

Re: Re It Gets Worse.

Well it gets even worse than that. Went to look at this pickup about 12 months ago. Thought 5 grand was far to much for it. Then my son spotted a really good three and a half ton all galvanised trailer in the same yard for 800 quid. So the deal together and the fact that we did'nt have to traipse round looking anymore, seemed OK. Well we never did insure the trailer and that got nicked a fortnight latter. So thats now £5800 nicked. And the most we can get back if lucky is £2500.

Tell the cops to look for the only Toyota 4x4 pick up without black smoke pouring from the exhaust!
