The steel rubbings strip that runs from the top of the bow to the stern on my 23ft displacement mitchell sea angler has seen better days and it actually gone in one area, it looks to bra round 10mm thick and 75 mm wide, would it be worth the extra cost to redo it in 316 ss or am I best just replacing it like for like, its has probably lasted since it was new 35 years ago, also what thickness would you recommend for 316?

When in doubt I have a few stock phrases to guide me. One of these is

"If a job is worth doing, it is worth doing in 316"

.
Consider solid polypropylene strip or nylon. It's what a lot of the coastal rowing skiffs are using - they are regularly dragged up and down rocky beaches.

Certainly as a rubbing strip if it were in stainless steel it could be quite thin ie 2 or 3mm. This will be easy to bend into place and should be tough enough for most groundings. Plastic may be OK too. good luck olewill

Where could polypropolyne or nylon strip for keel band for heavy ridgid 11 ' tender be purchased?

Not sure where we got the strip I helped screw onto the skiff's keel yesterday, but will try to remember to ask and will post here tomorrow. It is about 1" x 0.5" or thereabouts. One good point is that it is relatively easy to countersink the screws.
