The day is dawning.

KATE, the Alfred Milne designed America's Cup first rule 12 metre is heading off on a voyage to to northern climes.

Philip, her Captain, Owner and Builder, is sailing her single handed to the Azores - first stop.

The gaff main has been removed and replaced with a bermudan (triangular) style main.

Self steering gear has been fitted.

The mizzen boom has been raised to accommodate the self steering gear.

----------

KATE set off on Sunday afternoon.

KATE returned to White House Bay on Sunday afternoon.

The mizzen boom snapped in two. Rather strange.

A new boom is in the processor being constructed.

Departure date to be announced.

Fair Winds.

Not much time for sea trials then. personally, I would want a shake down with the rig before setting off. But OHOH im chicken!

Won't she be a bit undercanvassed?
I don't think she will be a bit under canvassed.

KATE tends to do 8+ knots easily.

I was sailing a 40'0" cat (Panthera) along side her a week ago and she gave a good run for the money on a close reach and KATE was under sail without the main. IE She had mizzen, staysail and jib up only. Plus she was towing a dinghy!!!

That boat is all waterline when heeled. It has to be fast. There was an international 6M here that would out sail all the latest machines in the late 80s included a Contention 33 and an Oyster 41.We only saw her stern most of the time even on a run.

The new boom has been constructed, painted and installed.

As of yesterday afternoon the mizzen sail was about to be lashed/laced (correct term?) on to the boom.

Tentative plan is to set off today.

Yes, for the superstitious among us, yes it is Friday.
