Been back to the "shop" twice now and FairPlay to the guys there who have tried to cure it three times, but we still have an oil leak
The rocker cover gasket is a tube of silicone rather than a cork or paper gasket
Is there something known or obvious they are missing (VP agents)

What’s missing .
Skill and patience along with cleaning the cover and cylinder head properly so the gasket actually sticks to the head .

When we were running 44's the silicone gasket method was to run a generous bead around the groove in the cover ( after cleaning with acetone ) and then place on the head ( with oil film on mating surface ), loosely tighten bolts , go and have a cup of tea to let partially cure and then fully tighten. Worked ok for us, good luck.

Just check they haven't binned the original rubbery gasket. I did my valves and put a tiny smear of instant gasket on the mating parts - no leaks.

I can vouch for this method as I have done it this way literally dozens of times. Clean both mating surfaces thoroughly so there are no oil traces, apply a bead of the Volvo silicone making sure its higher than the raised area around each screw hole. These were to prevent over tightening and cutting the original gaskets. Allow the silicone to almost dry so there is no chance of it smearing off when you refit the cover. Apply some silcone to the rear quarter of the cylinder head surface which is lower and where the leak can occur near the turbo pipe. Carefully fit the cover and tighten down, the raised areas will hold the cover slightly proud of the head but your nearly dry bead of silicone will compress nicely to fill the gap.
The secret is not to fit the cover while the silicone is wet as it will either smear off or squeeze out when you tighten it down. I know this method works as I always say I am the worlds laziest engineer and hate having to do a job twice especially valves on Kad 44 and 300’s, so I make sure its right first time.
