I've noticed what looks like white smoke from the exhausts on my kad 42 engines both do it but one looks worse , it's not using any water or oil etc ,both engines start on the first crack every time and sound great and were fully rebuilt about 6 years ago ,from what I've read it might be the injectors ,so to rule it out I would like to remove them from the worst engine and have them tested , I just wanted to know if there is any thing I should be aware of before pulling them out ? I've removed injectors before from our old boat (old 6l ford engines) but they were a different style of injectors hidden in the rocker cover) the kad 42 looks like it has a crows foot type retainer I assume you undo this and wriggle the injector out with a pair of water pump type pliers? Or do I need a special tool poss an attachment for a slide hammer ? Also Is there a copper washer on the end ? If so i assume I will need a replacement , prob being paranoid about the smoke but it would put my mind at rest to have the injectors tested / serviced I want to do it this weekend as Not going down for a few weeks so I will have time to get them looked at

Thanks Nick

I believe that faulty injectors would produce black smoke (too much fuel), mine certainly did when they had issues.
Your method is basically OK and if you had just installed them it would work, but they tend to seize in over time and when pulling them you have to be careful not to pull the sleeve that they sit in at the same time otherwise you dump coolant into the cylinder. The proper puller pulls against said sleeve.
I managed to make a home made puller and had to pull and twist as you describe to shift them.

Just called Rk marine and the tool is £48 inc vat so not to bad
Just wanted to know whats the chance of this going tits if i use the proper tool ? As I said before ive removed injectors befor and I've changed head gaskets etc on boats so I'm confident of my skills but don't want to spoil my boating season by pulling them out and dislodge the sleeve and causing more problems , I assume the tool should prevent this happening ?Or would it be better to do it at the end of the season ?
I so have a video I took last week of this white smoke whilst under way that I could post on here for the forum to look at it might just be steam ? but don't know how to Inbed it into the posting
Any help will be greatly received
Thanks Nick

The tool is made of chocolate, I've wrecked a few when there is a large amount of carbon on the nozzle tip, I've made my own now from strong tube.

No ones mentioned the tool to ckean the copper sleeve once the injectors out, buy the brush too.
