Hope you have a great drive down - shame you have to drive thru France and not have the sea cruise to Spain. With that rig you'll have to go thru the lorry payment booths on the French tool roads - prepare to be relieved of €300 :nonchalance:

If you get a chance, look out for Athena, just made the trip round from Portishead to her new berth at Torquay. Owner is forumite "Who". Top bloke and we will miss him at Portishead.

Is Athena a Beneteau trawler yacht, 44'ish? If so it was originally owned by a couple who before that had Eos, our boat. They were based in Torquay and he unfortunately died a few years back.

Is Athena a Beneteau trawler yacht, 44'ish? If so it was originally owned by a couple who before that had Eos, our boat. They were based in Torquay and he unfortunately died a few years back.

Athena is a Sealine 410 (F43). Mike is still very much alive (fortunately!)

I'll second both those comments. When I read above that there were (obviously) going to be hotel stops I wondered what precautions you had taken against scrotes helping themselves to the trailer with tender atop. My favourite would be land mines, razor wire, IR and a hungry rottweiller with a rubber band round it's goolies under the tarpaulin. But that's just me being a tad cautious.

Crossed to Roscoff yesterday and drove to Nantes.
Overnight in a cheap hotel (50 euros) with a locked compound for the Landcruiser and trailer.

Today ran right down to Pamplona in Spain.

Didn't want to push the old girl (Landcruiser - not SWMBO) too hard.
55mph most of the way.
But crossing the Pyrenees between Irun and Pamplona was steep so speed was much slower - again not pushing - she just plods along - seems that she could do it all day long.

Only a few hundred miles to go so we should get in to Sant Carles sometime tomorrow afternoon.

Just as well that we decided to drive the long way.
I've read a post on SCMCHAT.COM (our marina forum) saying that the ferrh from Portsmouth to Bilbao due to depart on Sunday has been cancelled due to heavy conditions forecast in Biscay.
That ferry was our other alternative.
Seems that Brittany Ferries are only offering crossings to Cherbourg on Sunday.

OK so moving on from the "Spot the boat" fun thread that I posted.

We arrived here in Spain last weekend (Easter) to glorious weather and a marina BBQ.
Great to get back together with friends after a long wet winter in the UK

With help from the boatyard's crane, we offloaded trailer on Tuesday and towed the dock over to JW using the new tender.

After helping Whitelighter move his boat into the yard, we started on fixing the new chocks to JW's flybridge.
After lots of help from a friend (not unknown here on this forum) the chocks were fitted.
The cantilever design worked and after a few donated doorstops, the cantilever part is well supported.
Those of you who know the design will probably understand what we have done.
If I get time, I will post some pics of the chocks.

Anyway, nuff said - here are some pics.

In the above pics. you can just see the Walker Bay on the bathing platform showing the comparison in size.
Will be sad to see the Walker Bay go - it has been very reliable - but it is going to a good home.

We did have to deflate the tubes to get the Novurania to fit but the lift and launch process isn't much harder than the Walker Bay - SWMBO and I can easily launch and recover on our own.

Apologies - in the pics, we didn't re-inflate the tubes and JW still has her winter cockpit covers on.

Today, the same helper helped (or I should say actually fitted) the new plastic dock.
More pics to follow.
We are hoping to keep the Novurania on the plastic dock whenever we are in Sant Carles.
Hopefully giving us a quick launch boat to go to local places - restaurant on stilts out in tha lagoon or down the coast to the next town for lunch etc.
There is even a Champagne and Oyster bar just outside the marina entrance - we could end up being a taxi for that yachties!!!
