All you lucky people living aboard your boats in the Caribbean and beyond. The weather back here in Blighty is freezing cold, raining, dull, overcast, and thoroughly miserable. its now 2.00pm and in about two hours it will start to get dark again. There's a complete load of rubbish on the television and even the seagulls look depressed. You have all made the right decision.... Enjoy!!

you are in a cheerful mood today!

I am hoping that the weather changes on monday as forecast, as I have the first coat of varnish on half my woodwork, and want to get the next on before I have to sand it all down heavily again (light sanding already completed)

I can be miserable if I want

I applaud your optimism but this sort of weather is EXACTLY what puts me off this country. And to top it all I have a cold....
Victor Meldrew is alive (but not very well) and living at Lee-on- Solent......

Re: I can be miserable if I want

I shall be going (first leg) next May down to Corfu. If all goes well I will have to endure one more winter back here to sell the house before buying somewhere abroad, probably Cyprus. Another 5 years of this weather and I would probably end up turning my toes up!

More tales of woe!

What a day!
Went out for a little tootle about to do shopping/mooching type tasks, had no less than 4 drivers within inches of rear bumper (we were part of a queue of cars, not causing it!!) on seperate occasions, saw some idiot tear out of tesco car park, and spin his van... TWICE (probably nicked it come to think of it), saw 3 near misses, a truck (tractor only) weaving through traffic like a loon, Double decker bus driving like he was on the ragged edge, and to top it off, I asked a guy sitting in his car if he wouldn't mind mooving back a touch as he was blocking me in a parking space and nearly ended up in a fight!!!!

Now I have a headache! Whats going on with this country? are we all doomed???

We're outa here asap!!!

There, there... are we hurt? Let old Tone kiss it better.

He can do that, because Jesus tell him so. (He got that one from good old Dubya)

Yes, I think you're right.

He's more interested in fighting 'Bad Men' on moral grounds, using our Armed Forces as 'a force for good'.

Geopolitical realities do not figure in his thinking.

During President Blair's reign he has committed the Armed Forces to five, yes five, conflicts.

Each and every one has resulted in loss of life to our Forces. For what gain?

I'm going to shut up now before I go off on a serious rant and my blood boils!

Well thanks a whole bunch fella. That really makes me feel better!
Having said that. Good on ya! Good to know someone is getting away from here.
Look forward to the spring when I will be off down to the Med. Only problem is I will have to come back here this time next year again to sell the house, assuming I have convinced "crew" that we don't want to be here ever again! Keep your fingers crossed for me......

Re: More tales of woe!

Glad I'm not the only Victor Meldrew around.
Seriously though I was bemoaning the decline in standards and attitudes 30 years ago. Now that the dreadful products of the social decline of that era have bred a new generation of urban terrorists it has reached the point where there will either be a right wing reactionary swing or total anarchy soon. I would rather not be here for either eventuality. Unfortunately having travelled a bit on business I believe this is a problem that is affecting a lot of countries in the western world and many European and American cities are just as bad as ours are. I started a bit of a reaction elsewhere on this forum by suggesting that the French (particularly in the "civilised" north) were also rude, dishonest and distructive. In fact I think their kids are worse than ours "en masse" frankly and many of them, like ours, appear to have grown up and bought boats too.. so where do we go to escape it? Hopefully the rural communities that are more laid back and less anarchic are still better than the urban areas... So lets ban fox hunting and get them reacting badly too.... That will improve things won't it now?
Perhaps we should redirect the hunting packs to the inner city areas where they can chase down the vermin on our streets that are far more of a danger to society than the foxes ever were... Now theres a thought. Meanwhile I think I will look for a little island in the Agean with no British, German,or French tourists and sit quietly with my glass of ouzo and "chill out"..... Roll on the spring.....

Touche!

Unfortunately for you, some time in the future, when you arrive in the idillic anchorage in the aegean, there will be a large steel bluewater cruising boat there, with 2 drunken persons on board and several (dunno how many yet) "slightly wacko" home taught kids zooming about on a hobie-cat or similar!!

Not to worry tho, we'll invite you on board for some ouzo!! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Re: More tales of woe!

Would you really offer hospitality to an old Victor Meldrew like me? Careful what you offer... I might accept!

No you dont..

< Only problem is I will have to come back here this time next year again to sell the house, >

Do as I did. Leave it all to the boss to sort out. I agreed the price for the sale of the houses, on the phone, sitting in the cockpit having a large g & t. Then left it to lawyers and SWMBO to sort out mundain things like completion dates, removals, final readings of power etc.
Works very well that way - then you wont have to go back to ASDA !!!

Such trust! Did you ever think for a moment she might decide not to come back with the money?

No cos it was my lawyer doing the transactions and he put the dosh straight into my account.
Apart from that yes I do trust her. She is unusual for a woman - she does not like shopping.

Why are you moaning? Weather is still mild. Sat on beach Saturday afternoon and evening fishing, great fun, it must be, because there were loads of other anglers all enjoying a bit of fishing, they can't all be wrong. Personally i would not swop good old England for any other country in the world. Change the way it is run, Yes, but leave it behind, Nooo way.

Out for a sail Tuesday and a bit more fishing, hope it gets a bit colder to bring the Cod in closer.
