I saw this sail past last week near St Vincent... Absolutely stunning, doing about 20 knots at a guess... (Hope this works - not done pics before!!!)

Hmm, very clever, but lovely....?

It looks like Stingray with Troy Tempest (or Marina?) drying the sheets.

Spends a lot of time moored up in Port Grimaud I believe, seen it quite a few times now, very nice I'd say, but then again that might be because it looks more like a mobo /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now in a photo I thought this was ugly too, but the real thing is truly very very impressive. We saw several stunning yachts around Mustique (as one would u know!!!!) but the first was more impressive than the rest. These are another two we saw...

I think she's gorgeous! Innovative design tends to have its own kind of beauty, IMHO. That's the case here, again IMHO.

I think the first is probably is a ship!!! But they still diegned to wave at us mere mortals :-)

It was still very impressive... Very fast and very quiet.

I read the articles in YW on maltese Falcon. My initial response was not too sure.

But now, having read how brilliantly innovative her rig actually is, and how incredibly well she performs, i think the yacht is fabulous. Such a change from standard bermudan rig, and amazingly manoeurvable. The unstayed masts turn, so can be backed to stop the ship in a few feet. All done from the bridge by the owner, whose name escapes me (he is quite old, you understand).

Ere! Thats twice you\'ve said that...

...carry on like that and someone will eventually take you up.

Well, they would on a far less savvy forum but the lads & lassies here recognise a( o F..k I've forgotten the word*!) when they see one.

Steve Cronin

* a sort of smart techno- webby word which I thought I had committed to memory. Sorry.

Maltese Falcon was anchored off Port St Charles marina (more info at http://www.portstcharles.com - they have some interesting webcams) here for a couple of days last week - a very impressive vessel for sure!

Her owner is an American venture capitalist called Tom Perkins - he used to own the lovely Herreshoff schooner Mariette, and her equally lovely 'tender' Atlantide (the tender is almost as large as the mother ship!).
Oh, and he also had (maybe still has?) one of the big Perini Navi ketches at the same time, like the last photo posted above.
I dunno how he finds time to do the maintenance on one, never mind two vessels.....

Lots more photos of Maltese Falcon on http://www.photoaction.com - click on the latest St Barths Bucket regatta.

Re: Ere! Thats twice you\'ve said that...

I said it twice because the OP said that they were impressive, so the second time I was commenting on that but attempting, and obviously in your view failing, to point out that impressive and lovely are not necessarily the same thing.

Plus, why are so many of the super-yachts British flagged?

My thoughts exactly, do we have a secret society that the Sunday Times rich list just does not know about?
