Jouet Yachts - Does anyone have any experience?

I once came close to buying a Jouet 1040. I was quite impressed with the design and construction at the time. I ultimately decided I didn’t want a boat with sail drive transmission,

Hi Arcady , one of my fellow birth holders has a sail drive on his yacht , he is a first boat owner like me . He was recently informed the seal needs replacing every five years , haul out , engine out etc . Mines a Volvo penta 2030 B , 1300 hrs on her , when I had the shaft seal replaced a very kind mechanic fitted a sure safe after explaining the pro and cons of these seals , he also fitted a spare seal on the drive shaft so I can replace the old one , “ 5 years life span “ so I’m told .

Bit of confusion here. The shaft seals do not need regular replacement, and indeed most never need replacing at all.

The "seal" that is recommended for regular replacement (at 7 years, not 5) is in diaphragm where the drive enters the hull. However, most people ignore this as there is little evidence of failure at any age, let alone 7 years. The recommendation was only made (30 odd years ago) to overcome sales resistance in the US. Nice business for Volvo so no incentive for them to change their recommendation.

Yes that’s the seal / diaphragm I was referring to Tranona , I will pass your info onto the boat owner , many thanks for the info .
