Hello everyone
Does any one know when the Jolly Sailor pub (Hamble river) is due to re-open after its re-furb?
I know the signs all say sometime in spring, but can anyone give me a slightly more precise date as i'm trying to organise a get-together
Tried looking for a website but to no avail and also tried calling today but no answer.

Thanks in advance for any replies.
Simon

Forget the Jolly Sailor....just back from a course at the ATC centre Swanick. Try the Talisman a couple of miles along the road. Passing Swanick marina on the right continue along for a couple of miles and you will come to the Talisman on the right. Superb food, nice refurbished pub and after the piss we drink in Scotland fantastic ale....especially the Tanglefoot....give it a try you will not be disapointed.

Paul.

Hi Starboard
I think motorists would get a bit p***ed off with our boats tied up outside though!!....Got to agree with you though, its a nice pub now that its been done out.

Say, are you guys still using Commodore 64's up at that ATC center or have some up to date computers finally been installed?

Simon

Commodore 64's indeed....tut tut not that sofisticated yet!!!!. Yes spent 2 weeks down there in December, great pubs, frequented the Rising Sun at Warsach, very good too....not that I would want you to get the wrong impression about us ATC types!!!! a nice change from Scotland though, but would not fancy your road traffic levels up here.

Jolly Sailor is being turned into a gastropub, I believe (ie, not really a pub at all).

If your get-together is actually looking for a pub with food, rather than a restaurant with a bar, the King & Queen in Hamble village is pretty close to the real deal.

Thanks Ken/Maxi

What ever happened to the saying 'if it aint broke dont fix it"!!!, The Sailor used to make a convenient and pleasent stop on the way back to the berth so i hope it doesnt turn into just another one of those indistinguishable "Hungryhorseeater" type pubs.
Oh well, Hamble it is then...(but dont even get me started on what's being done to the Bugle pub)

Ken,

That's a disaster! The Jolly sailor was my favourite pub - partly because I could get there by dinghy - and back without driving the car... But the beer was good and it was snug and quiet in winter.

I'm on the Universal side of the river. Is is poss to leave a dinghy on the Hamble village side without getting it nicked? If so where?

Why are all the best pubs closing? The Jolly Sailor must have been taking £millions in the summer. The owner of a boat next to me on Crableck used to manage the Folly for some years. He reckoned that no matter how much you improved the takings the owner would always be looking for more the next year.

Rob.

Oh no! I'm moving to Deacons' from Portsmauf on 1 April, and was looking forward to the odd pint or 10 in the Jolly Sailor.... especially next winter when the summer crowds are gone...

As for the dinghy getting nicked, the answer is to run one that is in such an embarrasing state noone would want to nick or if they did it would be no big loss - my fine vessel has a big hole in the front obviously patched up with a square of glassfibre, she is different colours in different places, has an excellent rubbing strake made from B&Q's finest pressure treated softwood and T/T Habendum painted on in black B&Q valuegloss, the budget didn't run to Dulux. I'm not saying that she will never be nicked but I think 99.9% of dinghies on the Hamble would be ahead of her in the queue! However she floats, doesn't leak at all and is quite comfortable... and will be towed to the Hamble in a couple of weeks.
