I stried Hobie cat Sailing this summer, what I didn't realise was, when I first went out on the wire, I would end up using my head as a rudder! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif lol , I 'd like to see those boys try such a sophisticated trick .....Not ... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I and some friends sailed Dart 16 catamarans from Bangor (NI) to Port Patrick (Scotland) and back some years ago. 26 miles in just over 2 hours, one way. Was like a mixture of sailing, kayaking a rapid and tumbling in a washing machine.
Catamarans are huge fun but try not to bury the bows - they have a tendency to somersault if pushed too hard! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Excellent, brings back great memories. We holidayed at Pointe de la Torche for about 5 or 6 consecutive years. A wonderful place but now far more popular and so with restrictions that did not apply 25 years ago. Although there primarily for the surfing I took our Hobie 16 with us too. Surfing that was something very different. Great fun until my crew broke his back - didn't believe me when I said he should hold the 'chicken line' from the stern. We hit the back of a wave at speed, he swung forward, right round the forestay and hit the trampoline support on the leeward side. He spent the next six weeks in hospital.
