Most of the Impala crews are younnger than us and recover faster sadly.
Current rating is based on the cruising sails. He has a set of laminate sails that have been cut down to lower the rating to where it should be. Unfortunately they weren't ready for last weekend. Nice boat to sail though and expect with decent sails it would be a lot of fun.Aha great, another Elan 295 to join the fray although she is on a high rating putting her in a higher class
Early forecast for Yarmouth looks good!
The St Quay race has been cancelled over the bank holiday weekend due to lack of interest - not helped I suspect by clashing with the Myth of Malham on this side of the Channel and the Deauville race on the other. However, there is now a substitute round the island race on the Saturday. Is this likely to attract any of the JOG inshore racing crowd?
Not that this notice, no. We decided our calendar for the year in February. The chances of me being able to get a complete crew together for 2 weeks hence is basically zero, unless I went with an entirely scratch recruited off the internet crew.
Well that was an absolutely glamour weekend of sailing! Made slightly more interesting by our steering failing about a mile from the finish in Yarmouth.... Simple enough fix once alongside, but it provided for a few interesting moments. Shame as it was looking very nip and tuck with Alaris on handicap until that point, but glad to keep them behind on the water anyway. And then a fun race back, we'd have liked a longer beat, but for the record going inshore up the Island shore after East Bramble paid a lot vs tacking up the Bramble bank. Again we nearly pulled out enough on Alaris, having trailed them going into East Bramble, and would have done had they not split the difference and come across to the Island in the region of Royal Thames.
I gather that someone came looking for Flaming in Yarmouth, so I assume that was someone from here! Sorry to have missed you.
Twas me! Interesting choice on Saturday about which shore to take but at least the mainland side isn't rocky which always helps a decision .....
It'll be a relief to get back to passage racing. I haven't done one since Alderney for one reason or another. Shame that is is going to be such a battle but on the other hand it looks like the weather in which we normally do quite well.
I don't know how JOG handle this sort of thing, but at what point do you think they will consider changing the course to go direct instead of via the back of the island? Or at what point will they rule out going to Poole?
