Whats wrong with exploding disused ordnance underwater? Why would anyone be concerned such that it needs a campaign to stop it?
It disturbs the sea horses grazing in the sea grass that hasn't been ruined by yacht anchors. Or, more seriously, leaves the seabed in a worse state than scallop dredging and kills fish, cetaceans and crustaceans. Apparently there are alternative methods of disposal.

The most sensible routing for a fixed bridge link is fairhead to mull of kintyre thence to Arran up glen rosa and doon Glen Sannox , round to Lochranza across to Bute thence on to Largs via Millport. This would have a significant benefit in making many remote crags roadside ones and enable a chip and ice cream stop in Largs. What’s not to like!

You would miss out The Cabin and its ice cream in the Dee. Better than even Luca's in Musselburgh - by a long way.

I've always been fan, she's an icon, across, comedienne and featured in my idle daydreams for many years. That doesn't mean I'd take advice from her regarding engineering projects, investment opportunities or advice regarding my pension.

At least she's better looking than Boris (the spider...)

Since i made a comment earlier in this thread i now notice Joanna Lumley videos as you tube suggestions for me ! Hmmm.
Young big bouncing boobs...... Lets see what happens on my youtube suggestions now

Luca's. Yeugh. You can do better than Luca's by freezing out-of-date mayonnaise. The best place I knew was the café at Kilcreggan, but that closed about 20 years ago, Heavens, am I getting old?

Nowadays I go for Glen Urr ice cream (made on a farm three miles from me). Never Luca;s though.

To be honest, it's been years since I was there - used to take my mother a drive for an ice cream, The Cabin is the place - the very food fussy partner spends a fortune there every week. Pop into the Copelands marina (remember to do the handbrake turn to port at the very last moment) on your way north and experience true 3rd world yachting.

Copelands Marina is definitely on my "to-do" list. Anywhere with that many warnings in the pilot book has to be worth it. Cabin duly noted. Goodness knows what sailing will be like this summer, but I am due to work on the IoM from 14 - 21st August so if that turns out to be possible I'll probably to sail there and what better reason for choosing a stopping place than good ice cream.

Every so often I try Luca's on the basis that it can't be as bad as I remember, and it never fails to disappoint. Perhaps I am spoiled by a childhood in the west, where Italian ice cream makers are real Italian ice cream makers. The Ritz Café in Millport is (or was) pretty good.

I was thinking of Nardini’s but, to be honest, I haven’t been there since 1976?
Haven't been there for many, many years myself. Autumn 1993 or 4, I think, though I drive past many times a year. Nice place, but very crowded. There have been all sorts of splits (including banana, ha-ha), changes and a very traditional family feud since then. As I recall, one bit of the family wanted to open more shops and one bit didn't.

I suspect that the arrival of premium ice creams (Haagen-Däsz, Ben & Jerry's and local brands) has damaged in-shop ice cream making. Each place used to have its own recipe; now the mix often arrives by the gallon and all the "maker" has to do is pour it into the machine and turn it on. OK, but more Mr Whippy than the stuff every Italian café used to do.

Talking of which, the best ice cream I ever had, bar none, was at a small Italian place near Covent Garden. Chocolate which melted into a thick chocolate sauce. We went back the next day but couldn't find it again, and I am convinced that it only existed for one day.

Um. I digress. The Isle of Arran stuff they serve on CalMac ferries is quite nice.

Is that an 'Arran' brand or is there maybe a connection with Pellegrini's - whose wares I have fond memories of from the 70's?

You'd never win an argument with Susan Calman, she being a lawyer amongst other things.
I’d never set eyes upon the woman until she appeared as a presenter on the Great British Menu (my wife liked to watch it ?). She was simply dreadful, hopelessly out of her depth. Each shot of her was “rabbit-in-headlights” syndrome. She completely ruined the series. I’m afraid that this experience has me now reaching for the remote control each time I see her on screen.
