He was talking about doing a guide book, but his latest project has proved a lot more successful than he thought.

Many of the most useful parts of these seminars are the question and answer sessions. Occasional warnings about bad experiences can be exchanged and explained, rumours can be tested . . . what do they call it? Scuttlebutt?

I attended one of these last year put on by the Gerrards Cross Sailing Association. It was excellent. As someone has commented the question and answer sessions are the most useful. This is where Jimmy is best. When he is talking at you it tends to be more a travelogue whereas his answers to specific questions go to the heart of the matter. I also found standing around talking to other long distance sailors of enormous benefit.

Have also bought Jimmy's pilot charts which I am trying to come to terms with having got quite used to the NOA ones. So far they look good and it is great to have just one book covering most of the oceans of the world.
