Having had the jib halyard break in my 311, I find that there are two pulleys at the front of the mast (as well as the spinnaker pulley). One is part of the forestay filling, the other is slightly lower, which one should be used with a roller reefing system.

If its like our 361 (which i think it is), the lower the better. It means rubbing against the top of roller reefing gear is less likely.

The main reason is that you need an appreciable angle between the halyard and the tube on the roller so that the top swivel doesn't rotate and give you a halyard wrap....

From memory I think the 311 has a 7/8 rig and provision for two jib halyards in the box where the Forestay attaches, just above this box is a stand alone exit box that takes the spinnaker halyard. As has been mentioned the jib halyards come out below the forestay and the spinnaker halyard above, you may still need a halyard guide on the jib halyard if the angle is not great to the furling gear.
