JFM

I can tell you he's aware of this thread... :)

If you have access to him - perhaps ask him to sign in and read it?

I am now doing an official petition to which I attach the first signature....

If you would dearly love to see JFM return to this forum, and perhaps be able to put what happened behind him then just post "Aye"

Aye

Have never met the man but JFM is a top bloke in my mind....
Some 12 yrs ago when I bought my Fairline Corniche (long sold on) through this forum JFM gave me various Fairline bits and pieces totally free of charge including the delivery!
I'm more of a lurker here these days since moving to the Canaries to live aboard but I strongly agree with all that his presence here is missed....
Would be good to see your return JFM.

Don't think it'd be appropriate for me to do so. He left for a reason. I think he'd do that only if he's ready to do so.

Fully understand - however on the flip side of that, He may know of this thread, but he may not know just how missed he is.

I might have left a forum because of something that happened for example thinking "For *&**&% sake - after everything I did for them, I am so unappreciated..... " and not realise that I WAS appreciated. I think unless he knows just how missed he is, he may never come back to check!

I guess the point I am making is don't necessarily ask him to come back, but let him know that not only does this thread exist, but more importantly, that he was really appreciated, liked and is much missed - I would suggest he may know this, but doubt he knows the extent!

That's understandable, after all he left AIUI after being shabbily treated by the mods following the Monaco Boat Show shenanigans, in which I declare a peripheral interest due to my connections to the brokerage concerned. Given that, I can see why he would not want to lend his valuable time, experience and expertise to 'prop up' the credibility of what is after all a commercial website/forum run for the benefit of said moderators' bosses.

That said it would be great to see him back, if not on this forum perhaps on a different one.

Perhaps an apology from said Moderators might be in order (I expect JFM will not seek one) , to entice him back. I know when I left a Forum, I received some very kind comments from Moderators and Members alike, but I was quite angry at the time and couldn't be bothered to get involved again, life was too short and all that.

Since then, I must say the protagonists have long gone, they soon expose themselves and all is well with the force and I am enjoying shared interests with like minded boaters.

It is a tall order I know, once I make my mind up that's usually it, but in my case all I can say is I did return and am enjoying it once again.

I do hope JFM reconsiders and does likewise, surely a Match-3 thread is on the cards......

I agree with all the comments here. JFM's participation in this forum is sorely missed

Same, and not just because he sent me a big box of LED light fittings surplus to Match's requirements, free gratis and for nothing ?

He may not be illuminating the forum at present, but JFM is still lighting up my galley and saloon.

Pete

I had the pleasure of meeting him when Match 2 was at the Swanwick Boat show, A top gent, Very happy to show strangers around his brand new boat, He did not mind people looking all over it, A Pleasure to have a chance to chat to him about a shared hobby.
His build thread was fantastic , So much shared details and going into great details about why he had chosen what he had.

The answer to that of course is for the people that feel that way to step up to the plate. 2020 has been a horrible year for boating so it has to be a given the movement and content will dip accordingly. Lets hope 2021 shows more than a few of Bouba's forays for a cheeky hour. At least someone is getting out.
Folk on here have tried, but there is an element that makes sensible and useful posting frustrating, hence people choose not to take the idiots on, but to drift away. This has little or nothing to do with moderators.

There is nothing much I can add to what has already been said about the constructive contributions of JFM and Latestarter and it would be very good if they felt able to drop by every now and then.

I have been around on here for many years and have seen it change from a very lively and helpful place to something a little different. The introduction of the Lounge had a big effect as general chat and banter on here declined and in recent times the tone of some posts has been akin to what, unfortunately, pervades much of social media. I don’t quite know why because it is in stark contrast to another boaty forum I am on, which is without exception friendly and helpful. I suspect that this is a contributory factor to some no longer contributing.

If we could get him back for my insurance renewal in Feb, that would be handy.:)
David, the Topsail wording are pretty much the same as the Y ones (there are some minor differences but nothing material). Coupled with the fact the some of very helpful Y staff have moved to Topsail and Chris who runs the company seems to be a decent chap, I shall be renewing with them.

To be honest, I hardly post these days either for reasons that I see little point in detailing. Besides, if I want to talk about Fairlines or Volvos there are other places where advice is more constructive and gratefully received.

And the Forum is the poorer for it Pete. It is a shame that you and others understandably feel the same way ?
