Ha ha, I think they have probably come a long way since then. Yes you can get on a jet ski and within minutes be happily motoring along. Fortunately that's not all you can do and when you are skilful enough you can perform tricks, something some are never good enough to master. Especially those who get bored after a few minutes.

It is a good analogy comparing them to motorcycles, millions of people ride those. And as for lots being for sale... Of course, they are trading up to BIGGER, FASTER models.

Lets license all jet ski's and make training compulsory. And while we're at it lets do the same for yachts and motor boats. What do ya say?

Come on put your money where your mouth is. Lets start a campaign for training and licence for all boating activities!!

I take it then Kev, you've passed another set of exams (<G>)!!!

I fear you are a voice in the wilderness on JetSkis - some people have closed minds, refuse to accept that anything other than their pre-conceptions are valid.

I am very much an opponent of compulsory licensing and agree that do it for one means do it for all. I'm not anti powerboat either, though some have their moments as do some yots. For the record I built a wooden ski boat from plans in days of yore, had a small motor cruiser too before going the saily route many years back, have friends with powerboats and yes may even consider one when I get too old and frail (joke).

You have the luxury though from your profile of keeping your boat at Chichester where I believe I am right in saying PWCs are banned totally. Here in Poole (and Studland to Bournemouth) we have the entire population of Essex car dealers on their works outing. It is not just a small minority, they hunt in packs, often 7 or 8. We now have a Harbourmaster riding shotgun to Condor on a Jetski, to stop the prats from riding it's wash or going between the hulls. Even the local marine police have a Jetski to aprehend offenders - that is not because of a 'small' minority. These things are also rented out from the beach to anyone with a bit of cash.

Cruising from Chichester to and around the Solent I see no problems with jet ski's.
If you are right regarding the problems in other area's then yes something needs to be done.
Jet Ski's are relatively inexpensive, very fast (65mph) and easy to ride so I guess they could attract Mr Moron.
If this is the case then something has to be done. Either harbour laws need to be enforced and put up with jet ski's in other area's, or legislate for all.

By the way did anyone see all those jet ski's in the Solent yesterday, there must have been at least 75 of them all going along together. Looked quite impressive!!

Familys fine thanks, hope yours is too. Thanks for the offer of a trip but I just know I'd be hot footing it round to Peters with intent to splurge if I did. Besides Outlaws are still encamped (six weeks and counting) and we've got a Chistening thing booked.

I have owned them since then, the last one only 2 years ago. I am however aghast at compulsory training and licencing. I cannot tell you how anti I am against all forms of this. I mean... the two most useless things on a boat are a wheel barrow and a naval officer (merchant navy excepted) /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
