Looking at the amount of Jetskis there are for sale it seems to me that they are the sort of thing that people buy and after a few goes they get bored and put them up for sale. Perhaps they will soon have the unfortunate reputation as being very easy to buy but very hard to sell.

i'm sure your right - they are toys rather than anything else. I guess the hassle of trailering to water msut be a pain for most people - esp when you can't sleep, eat, or even relax on board.

Be nice as a plaything on a bigger boat tho.

Yes, they would probably (and I guess, do) make excellent tenders for larger boats - but that's about it!

The reason you see them buzzing and spinning around in-shore is because that's all they are good for. After that, they get boring.

Re: JETSKIS - AGHHH

It says something about the general American public that the guy has to add an explanation that it's a joke....

Have tried it.

It's like driving your car around a field. Fun for the first few minutes but then it's a case of "Who else wants a turn? What, NOBODY??? Okay, then let's watch the grass grow".

Well I guess that's your opinion but my response wasn't directed at you. Personally I would imagine knitting is bloody boring but wouldn't knock it til I've tried it. Some obviously find it quit enjoyable.

Bit like Sailing I suppose, good fun for you.... nightmare for everyone else. Wouldn't be so bad if you all learnt how to sail in a straight line.

My my, we are getting personal. And who said I own a Jet Ski?? I merely responded to the originator of this thread. You turn up Slagging me off.
I know what the problem is.... You went out sailing over the weekend and your a bit pee'd of because you wasn't treated like Royalty and given way to every time you demanded it.
Cheer up and be a bit more understanding of the other users of our water.

And no I don't go Jet Skiing, but I used to.

I am very understanding of the other users of our waters. Unfortunately the vast majority of PWC users are NOT. And I stand by what I said, no audience = no fun, needs an audience = poser, QED.

Sorry Wrrrrrrrong.

I think you are confusing the Essex car dealer who has taken a Jet Ski in part exchange and rides it as competently and with the manners with which he drives his car (badly), with the Jet Skier who enjoys it for what it is. No audience needed.

All joking aside, it's not the majority, it's by far the minority who give it a bad name, but I guess it's just the same in Sailing and Motor Boating.

Many many years ago I was part of a consultative group regarding the licensing of Jet Skiing. The outcome was a recommendation of compulsory training and licensing. The RYA decided they could not enforce this for one group of water users and not for the rest (sailing/motor boats) which is fare enough. So there you go enforcement for one = enforcement for all.

Tried one once for 20minutes, its like riding a motorcycle across a ploughed field while someone throws buckets of water in your face! quite exhilerating for 20 minutes, but boring after that. Can't exactly go cruising on them can you.

Who knocked it? I made a comment. As regards trying it. I can send you footage of me using one in the early 1970s when they first appeared. I had one of the very first. The fact is once you done a few circuits... then what do you do?
