Jetski....... surprisesd?

Not surprised at all. The problem is that jet skis are often bought for laughs by young people with no prior boating knowledge. It probably doesn't even cross their mind that there may be speed restrictions in certain places and they certainly wouldn't know where those places are. They also have little comprehension of how their behaviour affects and is viewed by others, and even if they do they show little signs of caring. It's a shame on those that do act responsibly, and there are plenty of them, but I believe that compulsory training and licensing may be the only answer. Unfortunately, that will, no doubt, have a knock on effect to the rest of us. As a mobo owner, I am embarrassed to be associated with those that behave irresponsibly in any way.

But the ‘Jet skis’ aren’t to blame its a minority of owners that are muppets, the same can be said for anything propelled on land or water. So we’re sat in Totland bay yesterday, lots of moored craft enjoying the fantastic weather (about time!) , the bay filled with kayakers, paddle-boarders, swimmers, kids etc etc. Small RIB leaves the shore, over full with not a life jacket in sight, from the beach straight on the plane weaving between the moored craft and other water users, unbelievable :(
I don’t remember a weekend I’ve not seen someone on the water act in a potentially dangerous manor and their rarely sat on a PWC..............

That's like saying that cars don't cause accidents. It may be possible to operate a jet-ski considerately, and I have seen a few leaving harbour within the permitted speed, but at their normal operating speed they are intensely noisy. There can be hardly a resort beach now in the world where it is not possible to be free from this modern intrusion, at least, this is my supposition because I don't frequent these places. If you were within the operating range of the Romford Navy you would not conclude that the miscreants are a minority, let alone a small one.

at anchor in Osborne bay in the Solent a little possee of 5 or 6 jet skis descended on the anchored yachts -

they proceeded to amuse themselves by driving at speed towards anchored boats and then doing a "handbrake" turn to shower yacht crews with water.

We video'ed it on a phone so they decided to pick on us with one of them making 3 passes and doing the turn thing.

On the Monday emailed to QHM to report it - got no reply ... got on with life.

The were portly looking chaps - maybe they all owned the machines buy maybe they were hired ...

Absolutely a disaster waiting to happen - there were people swimming off their boats - obviously the day could have ended with someone dead -

But a inanimate object / machine like a car can’t cause an accident, can it not? Isn’t the issue always with the human element. I’m not saying some jetski operators are not guilty of being dicks but I’ve witnessed bad / unsafe behaviour on most watercraft, like the RIB yesterday!

A few years ago, there was a film online of a missile for taking out jetskis. I wish I could find it again. It just feels like such a good idea... I could have used it at East Head a couple of days ago, but not on jetskis this time, but a couple of speedboats with huge engines and what sounded like open exhausts - a horrendous racket as they left.

To be honest, though, the only thing that ever tried to kill me on the water was a Challenge boat under their old ownership. There was a pair of them racing on port, I was on starboard. The first one altered course a few degrees in good time and passed aft of me. The second just kept going, forcing me into a crash tack to avoid being t-boned. I put in a CHIRP report, but they went bust shortly after, so there was no outcome.
