Jet skis - solution

Re: Licensed Premises

Jimi, that really is very clever, I like that.

Raises the thought to solve all this is that perhaps we can be like the liquour industry and have an off-licence for boating - you know all of the sea is "off licence" apart from a little put aside for those that want to use the licenced bit.

Re: 16yr old Jet Skier killed in Cork

Rob, as everyone knows, more people die in their sleep than when they are awake so am busy sitting here with the cat who is giving me some safe sleeping lessons.

Re: 16yr old Jet Skier killed in Cork

Blimey, must admit I didn't know that! But I do know that cats sleep for about 18hrs a day so they must be experts. But then again maybe that's why they need so many lives, they probably use loads of them up in their sleep without us noticing!

I think I need to get out more.

Re: High-tech solution

Like the idea of using technology to find a solution, but this is getting a bit complicated. How about just requiring that a speed regulator be fitted to all jetskis. Normally, it would be inoperative, but on receipt of any transmission on VHF Channel 16, it would cut in & limit the jetski to 5 knots for a period of 10 minutes?

Two benefits and a thought

1. Well, there's quite a nice flag.

2. And its a good place to dump failed politicians without leaving them begging for alms on the pavements of Westminster.

Thought. Ryanair and EasyJet have done more to integrate britain in Europe than 50 years of political effort.

Re: agreed

Did anyone hear an interview with the ryanair cief exec/chairman chappie on radio4 Today prog a few months back? He was asked about his thoughts on the industry, BA cutbacks, low-price fares etc - but simply used it as a free advert to spout about the cheapness of Ryanair prices v the others and on and on. The intervierwer kept trying to shutim up. Hilarious.

Re: agreed

Heard it. Thought it was actually an analyst who was introduced with the caveat that he did have "an interest" in Ryanair 'cos he placed some business with them or somefink. But very funny yes.

Re: agreed

Might have been a different one cos' the one I heard was most definititely the Ryanair Chief exec and he was unstoppable .. could see why he was successful .. if I was his bank manager I would have lent him anything to shut him up .. reckon his first aircraft was a self powered hot air balloon

Re: List the benefits, please (long rant).

I WAN'T TO BUY THIS MAN A DRINK! As a matter of interest, Have the Frogs paid the compensation yet to our haulage companies that lost millions when the channel ports were blockaded, Or for the lamb burned on the quayside as they were ordered to by the Euro courts etc. etc. etc. How the hell can we have a harmonised Europe when we are the only people stupid enough to play by the rules.

Re: 16yr old Jet Skier killed in Cork

Which I assume includes 99.9999999% of all yachts as they nearly all have an engine.

Re: 16yr old Jet Skier killed in Cork

Only those genuinely capable of over 7 Knots. My guess would be that all yachts of greater LWL than 29 feet should be included.

Re: Jet skis - \'Lucas Ignition\"

All jet skis should be required to have 'Lucas' electrics, that way only half of them would start on any given day.

Re: Jet skis - \'Lucas Ignition\"

I think you might be on to a solution here! Given that they will now be unreliable, they should also be required to carry an auxiliary diesel engine and be fitted with a mast and sails. The stability regulations will require that they must have a ballast keel. In addition an anchor and chain and liferaft should also be mandatory.

Re: So we both agree then

Don't worry, we'll drag you in kicking and screaming sooner or later. We've got Blair convinced now so it really is just a matter of time. Get used to the Euro notes and coins (and associated inflation with its introduction). By the way, thanks for all the subsidies and EU funds over the last number of years. Our road network is really looking better these days.

So, what do guys think of the war?

Good riddance?

Really? I think that the UK leaving would be a massive blow for the EU, far more damaging for them than for us. If the country with the most widely spoken language in the world, and by far the longest-established political system departs the EU, and does rather well economically, it would throw the validity of the whole directionless project into doubt.

Re: The war.

I am pleased S hussein no longer in power, but unsure we need have jumped into the shit as quickly and deeply as we did. I can't help feeling the douglas hurd would not have got us there, and even dear H wilson neatly sidestepped vietnam, yet without totally falling out with the US.

Anyway, whatever the thoughts, they can be chucked out with the rather wonderful and symbolic removal-van-backs-into-downing street scene. Whereas if irish peeps want different people to run the economy, they can't do anything about it, and will have high-tax finance ministers for ever and ever.

Re: Good riddance?

Looking back from out here in the colonies the EU looks a bit like a sports team overburdened with internal rules and mediocre players. One might be the best player in the world, but in a team you are limited by the performance of the rest. Then when a bunch of the worlds poorest players are going to join the team, as is about to happen in the EU, one has to wonder why anyone of any competence and ambition would want to stay in it.

Certainly seems to be a wonderful environment for those into social engineering using other peoples money, rule making to enforce conformity (in fact conformance is a popular word in the rule making/standards environment), mandatory standards for everything down to toe clippers, artificial trade barriers (CE, agriculture), etc, etc.

Re: 16yr old Jet Skier killed in Cork

Re your last daft paragraph: I do wish you'd tell that nonsense to the Germans whose economy is in complete s**t due to their participation in the wonders of central EU financial control! Still - at least it meant that Majorca was half empty when I was there in July.
