Hi all,

I hope you are all keeping safe and well.

I have a Jeanneau Merry Fisher 805 which I will be bringing back from north Spain to the UK hopefully soon. Can anyone provide me with some figures in terms of range?
I have seen figures of 25L per hour at full speed (24 knots?). Could it have enough range to come from north Spain to the UK in 3 tanks, plodding along at 8 knots or so?

Just of note, she has a 230L diesel tank on board with a 200HP Volvo Penta TAMD-41p.

Any information would be massively helpful!

Are you sure your fuel tank is only 150ltr ?
that does seem small.
My SF840 has twin 200ltr tanks and it’s a very similar size to the MF805.
I could get from Southampton to Alderney on 400ltr whilst doing a bit of wreck fishing en route .

Post amended, what was I thinking...she has a 230L tank on board.

It all depends on the hull shape and weight , engine will use less fuel on a drive planing hull than a shaft drive semi displacement boat .

As an example my old corniche with twin 41s returned 1.75 mpg at 3100 rpm which gave 20 knots .

Were you thinking of crossing the bay of biscay.

Hi all, thank you for all of your replies!

So the 805 is a semi displacement hull with a single screw.
She has very recently been cleaned, anti-fouled and the prop painted.

I would not be inclined to cross the bay of Biscay but instead stick relatively closely to the Spanish coastline from Galicia and follow the French coastline up before crossing the Channel to her destination near Bristol.

Thanks again :)

25L per hours sounds light at 24 knots.
I work on 30L per hour for a kad32 on a planing hull and would imagine the ad41 , having two more cylinders on semi displacement hull would consume more fuel.

It would be cheaper to bring the boat over by road transport . And you might even survive the journey.

Merry Fisher 805

and copy/paste from some fishing forum

I changed to a MF805 from a QS640 last October and for similar reasons to yourself i.e. more bias on the cruising aspect over fishing use. So far I have had about 35hrs/250NM use of the boat and have been very pleased. Mine is a 2004 model fitted with the Nanni/Toyota 4.390 200hp TD engine, fuel consumption is averaging 1.6 litres per NM and varies from 8 to 24 litres per hour subject to cruising speed. Top speed on mine is a tad under 22Kn at 3,650 rpm, cruising speed 16 to 18 knots at around 3,200 rpm. Economic/lazy displacement speed is about 7kn at 1700 rpm. Handles well at low and high speed, but no bow thruster on mine, so some single shaft docking/reversing quirks to cope with (prop walk is noticeable).

I have the same engine in a Beneteau Antares 760 (semi-displacement, single engine shaft drive, 3 tonne displacement, 220 litre tank) and over my 5 years of ownership have learnt to plan on a 100nm range at 13knots using 2/3rds of the tank. On longer trips I take two 20 litre cans and an electric pump for fuel transfer. This extends my safe range to 127nm.

Hi Plum, thanks for the info.
I would intending to be travelling at no more than 8 knots so a bit extra in the tank. However, I am getting the impression that the range really won't be good enough to coast her back...

In terms of surviving, is this coasting or crossing the bay? Because I will definitely not be crossing the bay!
