Hi all looking for some help i downloaded the Jaguar 21 manual from the website but am looking for some of the photos that are not on it ie figures 1-8 If anybody has them would they mind e-mailing me with them.

On another matter my boat is the lifting keel version can anyone tell me where is the locking pin for the keel when it is in the raised position

Cheers

Sorry, can't help with the pictures from the manual. The locking pin inserts through a hole in the starboard side of the keel case. It passes through a hole in the keel and into the hole in the port side that is also used as a sink drain. I believe some of the very early boats didn't have the locking pin. With the keel down the pin passes over the keel holding it down should the boat suffer a complete knock down or inversion.

I was going to suggest posting on the Jaguar Yahoo group but I see you already have. Its strange, a couple of years ago the main users of the Jaguar group were Jag 21 owners and you would have got an immediate answer. Most of us that had 21s then have now moved on to other boats. The Jaguar 21 is a great starter boat, especially if moving up from dinghies.

You have obviously been on the Jaguar site but have you found all the information on keel an keel strap refurbishment? Jag 21s can be prone to the keel strap breaking and the keel falling out the bottom of the boat. Make sure you replace the strap if there is any sign of deterioration. Towsure sell a "Heavy duty Tow strap" that makes an ideal replacement for about £8.

I had one years ago,my advice to you would be ,check the keel bolts that hold the keel fittings to the hull, 4 bolts in all. A friends snaped the lifting cable comming of a steep wave resulting in keel swinging out of control and keel fitting pulling out and keel gone. The one good thing about the episode was the boat stayed upright in rough seas and made it back to its mooring. I bolted my keel bolts through the hull with a backing plate.

Cheers Guys thanks for the info yes i seen the info on the Jaguar wesite regarding the keel i will want to have a good look at the rollers and plates. Has anybody any advice on how i might be able to stand the boat up securily and drop the keel down for further inspection.

Cheers,

you do not drop the keel down, you jack the boat up by adding blocks underneath the hull.Make sure that you have the keel held firmly on either side. When I did it years ago I used a large builders plank underneath the keel and attached to it by hinges was another lighter plank. The hinged plank was held against the keel and on the otherside was stoppers screwed into the plank under the keel. Thus when you jack the boat up you can lay the keel over on its side and pull it out from under the boat if you want to work on it.Then reverse the process to put it back in.

The previous owner of my Jag 21 renovated the keel. He first modified the trailer so that it had a gap to allow the keel to be lowered to the ground ( there was a removable bracket that supported the keel in transit). He then jacked the boat and trailer and supported it with axle stands and blocks of wood. He had to dig a hole under the trailer and was then, after removing the fixings was able to lower the keel to the ground and remove it. He used a longer than normal strap to winch the keel back in again. He gave me some pictures which can be found here. He was a welder by trade and made the replacement stainless brackets himself.
