The stop cocks are open & the flush out works perfectly. When switched for pumping in, the handle pumps up & down with no resistance but doesn't bring any water in. Does this sound like a seal has gone?
Also for a while there has been a slight leak from where the pump handle goes into the housing & I was planning at some stage to buy a service kit to fix it.
Are the 2 problems connected, and also can I do the service while in the water (providing the stop-cocks are shut!)?

Had this problem with mine,
It was only the rubber flap in the top of the pump stuck in the open position.
easily fixed by taking the top of the pump off, had a small crab jammed in it!

Pour some water in the bowl and try again. Some times takes a bit to get them going after not been used for a bit.

Hi Frank !

Could be just stuck in the wrong position, but as u mention it does sound like a seal problem to me, particularly given the leak u've been experiencing from the handle/housing interface (sounds like the o-ring has gone).

I'd get a replacement/service kit and replace the seals - it's not a difficult job and yes, u can do it in the water with the seacocks shut, assuming there are no probs with the cocks. U will get a bit of water coming out of the connecting hoses, but this should subside pretty quickly !

Good luck and best regards,

Eric.

You can buy a complete service kit - about £25. It could also be that the plunger ring slips up and down the shaft. Its a bout a 15 minute job to fix. do you have the black or grey pump handle?

Had the same problem on Saturday.
took it apart and checked all flaps eytc, reassembled and works fine. Suspect a flap held open as per Mike27. Simple job to take a apart and reassemble (and not as mucky as you might think!)

Yes, in terms of the service kit. The grey handle has a different set up for the pump plunger to go thru. You say that water is leaking from around the gasket, with the service kit you get a new gasket which just unscrews from the pump top. You will see when you go to but the kit that the pack will show both gray and black handles on the pack - just buy th eone which has a tick against the grey handle. The Jabsco pump systems are very simple and the kits are easy to fit. Have a jar of vaseline handy to lubb the seals and pump chamber. Oh and a pair or rubber gloves, water will leak out when you take the pump apart! I forgot to add that yes you can service the loo on the water and make sure the stops cocks are closed - don't know if it makes any difference, just rather close them anyway rather than find out if it matters/forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Had the same problem over this weekend. The seal at the top end of the pump has two small weights on the flaps that are held in place by sprung washers. One had corroded and fallen off, jamming the valve open.
Bought a service kit, unscrewed the large plastic "bolt" and removed plunger assembly and unscrewed 6 screws holding on the top of pump assembly. Removed carefully, noting position of relevant bits (there is a small plastic plate with a hole in it that needs carefully relocating), and replaced with parts from kit. Quite straight forward and all now working.
The top end of the pump is the "clean" end, saved replacing the seals the other end for a treat another time.

Just a point to note, on the plunger rod, the piston is located by 2 circlips, these are not stainless and are easily broken/corroded (as I recently found out), these are NOT included in the service kit. They are quite small and you may have to shop around if they are required.

Dear Mr. Brush, a certain Claymore of these parts has a friend, well probably more of an aquaintance really, weel actually he may be tempted to refer to him as a pain in the arse, who could certainly benefit from a healthy dose of your phlosophy vis-a-vis toilet maintenance.

You are all wonderful!

Especially the bit about grey and black handles. Armed with this knowledge (but no knowledge of the original colour of the handle, since it broke the third time it was used, and also no knowledge of which service kit was used over the winter) my husband replaced the service kit washer with the orginal (in good shape) washer. Hey presto! Pumps in beautifully, no leaks around the piston - good as new.
We might even make more attempts to find a replacement handle, although our attempts a few years ago were singularly unsuccessful.
