I've lost some knots.

Really? It's sold as suitable for props and sterngear. :(
Part of the joy of motor boating is the importance of a clean hull and for you outdrives and props. So I use the international paints out drives anitfouling spray paint. And for the props they are acid washed each year and as I’m in the med I give them a scrub when ever we are onboard.
Think of the exercise value of buying a good wetsuit, mask, snorkel and fins and doing all this yourself.
PS having the ability to jump into the water if you need to clear a line is invaluable. I’ve had to do this twice.

Suitable and effective are two different words. Suitable because it contains no copper but it's about as effective as a chocolate teapot. I phoned them up to complain and their techy bless him made no excuses and confessed that it was not effective. A salesman would have denied the evidence and quoted the marketing gumph.

Even so you be the judge. Me? I think the fouling gravitates towards Trilux. Like it's delicious or something. Full marks for their hull AF though. The critters avoided it like kids presented veges

You know what I found works a treat on stern gear? Waterproof grease. Paint it on. You think it will shed when you're going balls to the wall but actually it's rather tenacious. Although you will have to squeeze into your wetsuit after a few months to apply some more. If you can hold your breath and not squeak you may even find your admiral thinks you cut a dashing figure as it corsets you back into your 25y/o figure tight buns and all.

<alarmed face emoji>

This is a worrying trend.

I can’t unsee that in my head now.

You are a very bad man Bruce.
:ROFLMAO:

Mark has the dubious advantage here of having met me in person so has a good general idea of the overall tubbiness factor. So that's doubly worrying.

Although I was thin once.

Not those you tie into ropes / lines / whatever. The speed ones. I had loads a few months ago now I'm missing 8 of them, that's 25%.
  • Speed through water on commisisoning in April was 32kts at about 3400 rpm
  • 8 weeks later, max speed was down to 30 kts. Burning 3.8 litres/mile. Tanks full, 2 up.
  • Now after about 4 months I can only get 24kts at about 3000, and fuel burn up at 4.2 litres / mile. Tanks half full, 2 up, so about 250kg lighter.
All at WOT, minimal wind and waves, and so this is not a happy story. Not sure what effect of burning more fuel at lower RPM to go more slowly might have on engine temperatures etc, so yesterday I throttled back to 18kts rather than running any faster.

Must be fouling I assume, but I'm surprised it's had such a big effect in only a few months. A visual inspection (or as good as I can do without getting wet) shows minimal slimy growth on the hull, some hairy weeds on the swim platform mechanism (stainless, not antifouled) and what look like small white growths on the prop blades and drive leg housings. Barnacles? Boat is not used as much as I'd like, it's been sitting inactive for weeks so that may have an effect.

I can get the boat lifted and scrubbed off of course, but I was kinda hoping I'd only need that once a year.

Anyone else based on the Hamble having similar issues this year?

Or could this be something else?

PS BruceK my fenders were not dragging in the water.... :)
You could do what Brucek does when we are racing , one time he through his fridge over board , then it was props and last weekend it was his tender engine , anything to catch Sea Star.

You're deluded man. I could jog quicker than Starfish

And quit picking on my boat. Everytime your's leaves the marina it scares itself witless. You left Conwy for your summer cruise and hid in VD dock for all of it. Ya, we have it on webcam :p

Our Scorpion rib used to be moored in Hamble. Top speed would drop from 42 knots to 35 knots after 6 weeks of slimey growth, the boat was antifouled.

Different antifouls work better or worse in different sea water conditions - not all sea water is the same.

I came across this review a few years ago and it makes for interesting reading:
