Hi Magnum
Cor blimey you've been busy if not been able to use the boat for a year! House move stuff?

I discovered same way as you that those gel batteries (in jet ribs, sea scooters, etc) seem to be fine if used/charged often, and totally knackered if left unused for 6months or so. Oh well...

I wouldn't worry about octane booster if it's only been a year, and esp not if it had Optimax/VPower type stuff in anyway, and/or you are going to top up with fresh 98 octane on way to slipway

All fine here. Have a bit of a plan to move boat to Croatia next year, for a change. Hi to Mrs Magnum from ere

Regarding fuel, i would be a little more concerned than some. Fuel starts to go 'off' within 3 months these days and if you have carbs can leave nasty gummy residue in the bottom of them. Relating to bikes, this can be quite a problem for people who ride their bikes march till september then bung it in the garage till March.
Thats why they say either drain your tank or leave the tank full so you dont get condesation etc etc.

If its fuel injection i would hope you would have less issues.
Thats if it is petrol of course otherwise i'll bite me lip /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

regards,

Nick

jfm, I'm thinking the same next season or year after. Basically I'm getting fed up not being able to plan cruises in W Med in high season because there are no visitors berths available and many marinas (eg all Ibizan marinas) will not take advance booking. Am I right in remembering that you were going on a saily boat charter there? Any feedback, particularly on cruising potential and weather?

Yep i have loads of feedback and pictures. Was a beautiful place. Just not had time to do a long post on it and upload all the pix. (Usual complaints - time pressure of a bit of work and lotsa going to Antibes :). And the clunkiness of this website re uploading pix...)

There were zillions of visitor berths avaialble except on Friday night/Saturday. One of the big Split marinas was perhaps 20% full on a sunday afternoon - felt like a ghost town. You definitely wouldn't need to book. But all the rental boats come in Friday night and leave with new renters saturday afternoon, so the marinas are really ram jam full for that 24 hours. But there are islands everywhere, with nooks and crannies galore, so always easy to find a nice anchorage and just nip into marinas midweek for food/fuel/water.

I'm on the case re getting a permanent berth - would need that to keep the boat there for a season

Fuel is expensive, I dont think there is de-tax.

The anchorages are wonderful, water crystal clear, towns (esp Dubrovnik and Hvar) just beautiful. The pilot book is pants, so if you want a retirement project with your digicam and laptop...

jfm, yes lots of house stuff, well actually land stuff. I'll fill you in sometime.

Yes, Croatia does look superb although achorages much deeper than med I believe. Still, hopping from port to port is great fun and not easy to do in the med during summer.

Any plans for something bigger? I know when we spoke a couple of years ago you had an eye on a Ferretti 731 or was it 761?

Did you get that new Avon 4-stroke thingy? If so any good?

I was on Brac a few weeks back, flew into Split. What a stunning area, can't wait to get back. Only downside was the hotel air con broke down on the hottest day for 4 years!

I was surprised that I saw very few boats almost anywhere. Looks like the almost perfect cruising area.
