it wont point to wind ????

I generally agree with Searush and Freestyle - having sailed a bilge keeler, we needed to be about 40 deg off the wind on port and 45 - 50 deg off the wind on starboard (or the other way round)in light winds due to the shear effect. If we got the speed up we could point up a bit. New fin keeler points up to 30 - 35 deg apparent without stalling but draws nigh on 7 ft so we cant go the places we used to. Enjoy the boat for what it is.

Actually I think it did up set the other fella a bit from a couple of miles distant he came up quite fast in comparison but as he came closer I could see how he had his rig set so I copied what I could see, as we went along my speed was certainly improving and for a time I felt able to keep up but for the poor heading !

After a while and my failed attemts at keeping a decent heading back to wells I dropped the sails and used the engine
Next time out I shall remember to get some speed through the water and ease her into wind

Didnt get bored at any time so happy, plenty to learn and enjoy

:-)

cheers
Mick

Yes it is disheartening when a fin keel comes sailing in light airs and you can t hold the same course or match the speed..

You will soon learn how to get the most out of your Mathilda but don t expect to keep up with boy racers in their fin keelers.

Just remember they can't just sit on the beach when it is picnic time /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Can t have everything.. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
