It’s the Equinox...

I reckon a swinging mooring is the best. Will lie head to wind. Provided the kit is ok and nothing has gone adrift of course. And is it one of the new moorings that were planned to complete yesterday? I guess it won't have been one of the new ones because she wouldn't be on the mooring while being laid:eek:.

Judging by the mooring rope, which looked in good order, the mooring looked secure.

I did attach one additional line to the buoy just in case.

To reduce the windage, I also dropped the sprayhood and tied it down and removed the stern dodger. I also secured the tiller midships and, most importantly, I made sure the beer supply on board was well stowed.

There are some webcams on the pontoon and I can’t see my boat clattering around loose yet, so keeping my fingers crossed.

I haven't dropped the sprayhood - yet. TG's is quite low - almost streamlined. Indeed with the cockpit cover over I would like to think it is streamlined there as well!. Tiller tied midships and with extra big bungy on the tiller. I always have a tie around the genny anyway and the reefing line is cleated off. There is always the risk of something tearing of course.

Not the best:

Outlook for the following 24 hours:
Wind
Southerly or southwesterly veering westerly, 6 to gale 8, occasionally 5 at first, then increasing severe gale 9 at times.
Sea state
Slight or moderate becoming moderate or rough.
Weather
Fair then rain then squally showers.
Visibility
Good, becoming moderate or poor for a time.

I was hoping to sail from the Medway to Essex on Tuesday morning, but didn’t fancy sailing in an F8, even from astern.

Next window now looks to be Saturday, assuming the forecast doesn’t change again. Sailing on Sunday is definitely out with 64 knot gusts predicted!!!

In the meantime, the boat is on a swing mooring in Queenboruogh. Hope it’s still there on Saturday.:(

Yes, I'm watching that Saturday window with interest too. Currently hunkered down in Ramsgate enjoying stormy seascapes over the harbour wall (and the usual Ramsgate scend on the berth). Pics here https://allatseawithstargazer.blogspot.com/. We're inbound for the Medway after a trip to Breskens. So near and yet so far. If this Saturday is a no go, it'll be the train home for me and try again the following weekend.

I was storm bound in Ramsgate for a few days last summer when an F9 came barrelling through. I quite got to like the place. It seemed to be on the way up, with some of the Georgian houses being done up. Found a little bohemian pub near the marina which did some excellent local real ales.

Good luck for Saturday. So far it looks good, but it’s only Wednesday.

It looks as if the weekend storm has been cancelled. It could be pretty windy, but nothing special according to Passageweather.

I left St Kats on Monday night, and Yanlett anchorage at dawn on Tuesday, Good blast back to Ipswich, and only saw one gust into 8s. :)

I liked ramsgate, I guess the pub you mean is the mariners bar, does a good breakfast but no evening food, cracking decor though that'll keep you entertained for a while.

I am not familiar with Mariners bar, but will give it a go next time I am in Ramsgate.

I was referring to the Queen Charlotte, quite near the big set of steps up into the town.

I was in Ramsgate in April with a Southerly blow. There was so much scend in the marina that a few of us broke lines. My bow rope parted. I was lucky I was aboard although the forward spring held it until I replaced the bow line.

Pete's Fish Factory is still in business, as good as ever.

Ah Ok, so it was do-able after all. What were the sea conditions like?

A bit lumpy! Only a couple of waves in the cockpit. Running down tide tended to smooth things out except when passing over some of the shallow sections through Barrow and Middle Deep. We managed to run it in one tide. If the tide had gone foul, then it might have been less pleasant.

Thanks. That was my thinking. Yes, I could get to the wallet spitway at LW running with wind and tied, but then I would be beating with wind over tied going up the Blackwater. Not a lot of fun.

However, as it turned out, the wind dropped in the afternoon, which is when I would have got to the Spitway, so maybe I would have been OK.

Anyway, things look OK for Saturday now. Going back to the boat tonight, and hoping that’s it’s still in the same place I left it.

The original image I posted on the 18th shows the ECMWF being very close to what the GFS is showing for tomorrow (despite the ECMWF having a dither a day later and aligning itself with the GFS).

Original ECMWF forecast on the 18th on top - today's GFS for tomorrow bottom.

I reckon the ECMWF was pretty accurate medium/long term.
