I hired a canal boat which had an Isuzu 42hp, (or maybe kW) it looked like a spiffing engine, anyone come across one at work?

very common inland i believe ( Green Engines) designed for canal use.
Isuzu engines are used in small trucks / vans in the UK , Vauxhall i think
In Saab, and the Ford 1 ton truck, but the boat had a dedicated marine engine, not a road engine conversion.
Like most modern "marine" engines it is an industrial engine used in other applications such as construction equipment, refrigeration plants etc. as sailorman says has a good hold on inland waterways, perhaps because that is what the importer specialises in. a few have escaped into other markets - think Caer Ufa who posts here has one in a Colvic Watson. In Saab, and the Ford 1 ton truck, but the boat had a dedicated marine engine, not a road engine conversion.
(I believe the Vetus range are Isuzu-based).

Yes I have one aboard my CW 23'-6" a 27.5 hp Isuzu 3KC, excellant diesel engine which only uses 1 litre /hr at 5.5 knots (bearing in mind the boats is 4.6 tons) !

A contact asked me recently whether Westerbeke engines were Isuzu based. I didn't know, anyone have any information?
Jolly good, nice tidy installation, how long have you had it? Any issues?
Engine was installed in 2000 and has currently done 1150 hrs,(bearing in mind I mainly sail), at 5 to 6 knots at say 1800rpm it always uses 1 litre an /hr consumption.
In my installation due to restricted access the water pump is not the easiest to get at nor is the dip stick, other than that it runs and starts every time.
Its currently connected to it's second 2:1 ZF 10 gearbox and I may look at fitting a PRM box next time, however that would entail having to lift the engine 10mm for input/output shaft alignment.
I do change the raw water pump impellor every year but mainly just for my piece of mind, I change the gearbox oil every 100hrs and the engine oil every year in December!
so would you be using about 13hp @ 1800 RPM
Used to be Perkins.
