Earlier this year, I booked a Dayskipper practical course for myself and a comp crew course for SWMBO to take place during August and I paid the balance over three weeks ago. I did ask for some sort of acknowledgement and despite numerous telephone calls, messages left on their two answerphones etc. I have yet to hear anything from them.
Does anyone know anything that I should know? I'm getting rather concerned.

Is this Island Sea school in Port Dinorwic? If so they claim to be recognised by the RYA and to be members of the National Sailing Schools Federation. Contacting these two bodies might be a sensible move.

I did in fact contact the RYA and spoke to a very helpful lady, who phoned the school on a mobile number that hasn't been published and and confirmed that the people who run it are on holiday in France. The school has since telephoned to apologise and to confirm that they are still in business and our courses will go ahead as scheduled.
Apparently they left someone in charge but he doesn't seem to be answering the phone or e-mails.
Anyway thanks for your input.

Good. The RYA does have its uses after all. I hope you enjoy your courses.

Know the training yacht and its owner/skipper well.
I think that you will enjoy the sailing and learn a great deal.
My wife did two courses, and now sings his praises!
I guess everyone has to go on holiday sometime, and it was unfortunate that your initial telephone calls were not answered.

Regards,

Tam

I to have been out with Stan recently on a Dayskipper course. Really good time and I learnt a lot.

I know when we were out with him he'd just sold his house in Leeds and hadn't got sorted in Bangor yet... Also he was off to France on a long trip for Coastal/Yachmaster miles so that is probably why you had difficulty getting hold of him.

Problems and advantages of such a small operation. Much more personal and really great at getting all to excel, but somtimes difficult to contact if doing a course at the time.

I'm sure that you'll have a good learning experience and the boat (Rival 41) is fantastic to sail.
