Is yacht handling

And was answered (by me) in one sentence in post#6. In fact was really surprised that somebody with all your experience setting up sailing schools and teaching instructors should even be asking the question. so not unreasonably assumed you were just using it as an intro to your gripe bout incompetent charterers.

If all you wanted to know was what the syllabus contained then the sensible thing would be to go onto the RYA website and read it.

You on the other hand pontificate on all subjects 33, 751 posts and you took 2 years off, were you surprised to find it still here after your absence and multiple contributions ?

I regularly sat at Marabou bar in Agia Efimia, it has a perfect view of the yachts attempting to reverse towards the quayside, it was very entertaining! but as anyone who has moored here knows, in the late afternoon a Katabatic wind blows from the West, this blows directly onto the beam of the reversing yachts, it is always around F6, so a novice Med charterer is faced with a crowded quayside, he has just about room to get into a gap if he squeezes the fenders tight, has to judge when to drop the hook and hope it holds, and then attempt to reverse with the wind blowing him East, into other yachts, it can be very challenging at the best of times, especially with everyone watching and ready to shout advice, it is a skill that can only be mastered with practice, most can get it wrong.
I will second that. Again Efimia does indeed blow hard late afternoon - it can be F6 and blowing across the berths, yet an hour earlier F2-3.?

Out of interest, how would you do a "Med moor" if single handed? I can't imagine how you'd do it, as you need to be at both ends of the boat at once. You need someone on the bow to drop the anchor and let out chain, and then someone on the stern to get the shore lines on. In anything of a current or wind, you need someone on the helm; on a boat that responds poorly in reverse like mine, you need someone on the helm in any situation. I can just about imagine doing it two-up - one on the helm, the other dropping the anchor and then coming to the stern to handle lines - but I can't visualize a way to do it single handed.

If I ever go to the Mediterranean, I think I'd better anchor off!
If single handed you need cockpit controlled windlass and set the anchor cock o bill before the approach. Otherwise anchor off.

Anyone who has no specific practical experience in med mooring or knowledge of the technique I can vouch for this quality You Tube video as an excellent primer - which of course needs consolidating with experience. Prior to Covid, I chartered in Greek waters for 10 years and discovered and adopted the specific technique in this video in 2015. As well as a very good boat handling technique it also reduces the need for shouting at the missus and subsequent fall outs.? Hint it’s mainly about planning and preparation with a common understanding between skipper and crew - nowt novel about that.

Of course it is an open forum and as such it is not unreasonable to question why a post was framed in a particular way. You know the answer to the first part of your original question (or should do given the experience you claim). The reason you gave for asking assumes that all the people who were behaving in a way that seems to offend you held RYA qualifications. This is so unlikely that one is entitled to ask why link the two?

I have been posting on this forum for nearly 15 years with a short break. I have an interest in all sorts of boating related subjects having owned boats and worked in the industry since the mid 1970s. If you don't like what I post put me on ignore.

New boy !15 years 2000+posts a year avarage= Know it all.?
Though you are occasional right ,but, not in this instance.?

And, pray, what is it that I am not right about? Your initial question was answered correctly in post 4. The second part of your original post was criticising other peoples' boat handling skills (which you were trying to link to the first). I think you will find that my views on the subject are shared by the majority of the other posters on this thread and that maybe your criticism is unjustified.

And then again perhaps you think you know everything .
You defend your position with out any knowledge of me .
Bit like Escargot defending the child abuse in the Catholic faith .
Bye.?️

Unfortunately it was a fact sometimes the truth hurts .Do a search
I am now in my bearth in Ageina town on the sailing school pontoon , waiting to have a beer with Mark Cooper the head instructor.
I'm not getting involved except to say your #88 is in poor taste. Enjoy your beer.
