Is this what we are comming to?

Look like the pontoon homes I saw at Southampton last year. I loved them. Even contemplated buying a couple to rent as holiday lets in nice locations, I know, I know, lots to thInk about but a possible runner. They were a lot cheaper to buy direct though. Very roomy and modern inside.

we looked at one at Southampton boat show this year and i was impressed. i would rent one as a holiday let for sure! not sure i would want to live long term in one but as a rental absolutely yes.

think the marina would have something to say if we stuck one on the pontoon at the end of the garden

Am I being cynical? If each one is planted in a Marina berth and used for a liveaboard then that reduces the number of available berths for boating. It also means that where the council wouldn't allow planning for houses, there will still effectively be a dwelling there, with all the associated costs to the relevant council without them getting the normal revenue from permanent dwellings.
Saw that Tollesbury have applied for 8 permanent liveaboard berths recently - wonder if some of the above will turn up there.

There are plenty of vacant marina berths just now on the Clyde - I'd imagine a few marina owner's could see this and think about going into the airb&b business

It would sure make moving house a whole lot easier if you have one of those jobs that takes you from one place to another. I wonder if they do a model with twin 50's......

Well, most marinas have some spare berths, so reducing the available berths for boating isn't necessarily an issue. Note that the "pontoon homes" in the OP were described as having "unrestricted holiday home use" - this doesn't mean full time occupation, and usually requires owners to have another permanent address. As for Tollesbury, they haven't applied for 8 permanent liveaboard berths, they already have them and are now retrospectively trying to make them legal. In view of the difficulty in getting in and out of Tollesbury Marina, filling it with liveaboards might be a good idea.

Please don't, I never have any difficulty getting in and out of Tollesbury and we really like the place!
