Is this fitting brass, bronze or DZR?

I took the back nut off and dropped it on the floor, quite a nice ring to it.

None of this is conclusive enough for me. I'll buy new bronze.

Buy a good quality plastic one (yes, I know most metals behave in a plastic way ), so I mean a polymeric one, Corrosion free, not corrosion resistant, no ambiguity,

Excellent article on brasses & bronzes including DZR.

Thanks for replies on the "drop tests".

Good bronze is harder than cheap brass & should be easily detected by tapping on it or dropping, etc.
Problem is that both brasses & bronzes are formulated in various compositions so testing is not always that easy.

One point is that good bronze fittings are usually cast & then machined. The casting roughness is usually visible in non-machined areas.

I would do that, but its an older wooden boat, aside from some of the plastic skin fittings not being recommended for wooden hulls, I suspect the market would frown upon it if I wanted to sell.
