Hi all, just checking that this engine is indeed the one I think it is. I was told its a merc OM352 marine 6 cylinder 120HP deisel engine.
I manually pumped out almost 5 gallons of engine oil this afternoon to drain the system which seems a lot However it may have been overfilled previously or sea water may raised the fluid levels to 5 gallon, its a lot of oil !!!.
Would anyone know what oil rating would go in there in terms of viscosity etc, synthetic or not......
There are two what appear to be oil filler caps on her, on on top of the rocker cover as one would expect and one directly filling into the gearing wheels that run the fuel pump on the front right hand side....are both these to be filled with engine oil or are they seperate systems ? They can be seen on the photos. These engines were put into lots of different vehicles so the twin filler caps could simply be to allow easy oil filling when acces to the rocker cover cap was awkward to reach.
Lastly I took some shots of the Gbox too...would anyone know what Gbox that is? I am going to drain that out too but do not know if its the same oil as the engine OR if theres a drain plug to drain it out.
As you are probably gathering I know nothing whatsoever about this engine but a near sinking really galvanises ones quest for knowledge LOL.
Regards Alan
