Is this a record? (strange mobo behaviour)

OK In retaliation
Will never forget being nicely anchored in the pool in Solva watching a new 35+ raggie on a broad reach sailing through the stbd channel.
Shame about the 6ft depth and 8ft keel!!!
didnt half stop quickly tho

Re: or...

and i think that helm shouting at crew while parking is more common on raggies too.

<hr width=100% size=1>my opinion is complete rubbish, probably.

Agreed

We watched a yacht berthing in Shotley marina a couple of weeks ago. Sir on the helm, two ladies at the shrouds with lines. Ladies jump onto pontoon, but the lassie at the stern was slow in getting the line on. Much shouting from Sir, lady at the bow runs around to grab pulpit (!) and hold it off. The poor unfortunate at the stern gets more harsh words, finishing with the immortal line "....we nearly scratched the gelcoat!" When the dust had settled, the lady at the stern stumbled back on board, shoulders sagging, and disappeared below. My wife remarked "I don't think she'll be sailing with him again"

Meanwhile a boat was executing a much less dramatic mooring in an adjoing berth. No shouting, just people going about their tasks. It was a lady on the helm...

Saw a Cat do that in Poole, straight into the sandbank, did stop rather quickly.
Then watch guy jump off and try and push it off again.
Give him his due he eventually managed it

Err..... I've done it in Poole. Came out of Salterns Marina, noticed the large red can, took it to starboard, as you do when you're leaving harbour. About 6 kts, straight in to the bank. Various displaced crew.

Re: Hmm.

Very good chum of mine followed the same well worn path.First boat and well over 100k spend on very fast machine. On third trip out with wife and son weather bad enough to dislodge aft cabin ceiling.
Boat sold within weeks. Now starting all over again, has now done icc and is going on weeks boating course.
Shame if anyone is put off boating through scary first experiences.

Re: Mobo egits

All this reminds me of an incident that happened a few years ago. MoBo heading back from Arran to Troon on auto helm. Occupants below decks 'tween sheets playing doctors and nurses, all went well 'til about 3 miles out, Mobo drifts of course and runs aground on Lady Isle at full throttle. Up the rocks and onto the grass. Now that is what I call "Coitus Interruptus".

The wreckage is still there to this day

Heard about a group of people who having just passed their YM shorebased course, went out to celebrate and practise their new found skills, and ran aground/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

How true ????

French Race boat sailing into Solent to go to C&N for repairs / upgrade.
Didn't take heed of chart warning about Sub barrier .....

He stopped pretty quick as the solid concrete blocks ripped his beautiful winged keel off.

Needless to say stay at repair yard was delayed while the boat was lifted from wher it sunk !!!!

Nicely sailing from Fareham Creek into Ports hbr .... tacked a little too late and onto Peewit Island ......... start engine to pull off astern ..... pity the sails had more power than the engine !!!

Finely next tide pulled off by local Mackerel boat .......
