The first is that my boat has a lead keel and coppercoat wont stick to that metal.
Sticks just fine to our lead keel. Of course not directly - we used the recommended epoxy primer that AMC advised. I've just posted the first article in a series about my DIY Coppercoating in 2015 (and again last week, to raise the waterline
So I believe that the problem is shore power.
As liveaboards, our shorepower is always plugged in where available, which causes no problems at all (no need to waste precious battery cycles when in harbour). But there is of course no connection between the shorepower ground and anything that isn't AC related. There's an RCD to protect us in case of dangling wires or dropping the Dremel in the water. This is a matter of some dispute amongst boat electricians, although if you ask me, it really isn't
