Is there a chandlery at Queenborough?

I'd give 'Block and Winch' online Harken a miss if you decide to Internet shop!

They take the money, don't send the bits, blank all communications and 3 months later you get a refund from your card company....

I was told the Queenborough chandlery was sold and going to be used on a fix up houses type TV show, that was a while back and nothing seems to have happened to it yet.

I'd favour Pirates Cove over Gillingham marina locally myself. The new chap Scott has driven Pirates Cove onwards and upwards quite nicely.

Pie Rat's Cave is indeed on the up, I agree. But not so good perhaps if you're a visitor on a boat, hard to get to. I guess you can bike it from Upnor which is an option. So long as you survive that roundabout....

Looks like we may not make it anyway - the lock is broken at Limehouse! Blimmin annoying... we've been so short on time and opportunity to get the boat out and this would be the first time this year. They have the engineer coming today to assess. Hopefully it will be fixed by tomorrow night.

There is a footpath from Upper Upnor that is almost a straight line to the roundabout at the end of the Medway Tunnel. I used to walk this path on a regular basis and it will only take about 15 minutes, so may be not worth getting the bike out. Pirates Cave is about 100m from the roundabout.

You can also cross the road at a controlled crossing so no issues with the roundabout. I have walked from Morrisons in Strood to Medway Yacht Club with a backpack full of shopping on a few occasions, not a bad walk.

Pirates Cave is a good choice, as the OP said only a short walk from the clubs at Upnor or a dinghy ride across from Chatham, though I wouldn't recommend Whitewall Creek except near HW. Pirates Cave has moved recently slightly to nearer the roundabout. Look for the sign by the main road opposite the BP garage. There are also chandleries in Gillingham Marina and Faversham Creek.

Your definition of "short" obviously differs from mine! I certainly would not fancy walking from Upnor carrying a few litres of anti-fouling!

I find that a small folding trolley very useful to have available, slips into a dinghy ok and invaluable when 'lugging' heavy items.

Can I ask if the 'landing place' at Lower Upnor has been re instated, it used to be quite useful to land in a dinghy, from Gillingham, Chatham, Rochester or Medway Yacht Club and walk inland from there or to a Pub or two, so a nice walk to Pirates Cave.

The building that was The Bosuns Locker (I think that's what it was called) at Queenborough featured on Homes Under the Hammer several years ago. An unfortunate lady bought it only to find difficult structural problems and put it on the market again. Nothing seems to have happened since.

Indeed it was the Bosun's Locker, in fact the sign is still over it IIRC - I walked past it a couple of weeks ago. The shop actually closed years ago. It was run by one of the local CG team.
