Is sailing a hobby

It's a way of life for me, I have lived aboard now for 15 years, still not bored or fed up, work away lots, but the boat is my home, luckily it's where my wife lives also! Thank goodness she loves the boat and the cruising life also. I see no reason to come ashore yet, when I am too infirm to work and keep the boat, then I guess I'll come ashore. But it will have to be close to water and boats!

This is not a rant as I watch from the sidelines with a wry smile. There surely is more to life, isn't there?

As with everything else, it's a personal choice.

Personally I like racing round in circles but I quite understand that some sailors have yet to see the light and race their boats. And when on land, I like to race my little car roiund in circles too.

There's a theme developing here.

Boats have been part of my life since I first walked ... ( tripped getting into the Enterprise Dinghy at 5yrs old !! ) ....
They have become a part of my life and I cannot imagine not owning a boat of some description. Whether it be motor, sail or what - doesn't matter to me. I love the sound of water along a hull ... the sunsets and sunrises out at sea or even on the river where I live.

I'm extremely lucky that I have my boats within 200 yds of my back-door in privately owned area ... I can sail / motor at any time I want as no tides.

Basically to me - they are the reward for work over the years to myself and anyone who wants to come on board and enjoy boating.

My wife says herself that she cannot imagine me without a boat ... and accepts without question that I want to go boating. She loves the river trips we have ... we usually returning to house when sun is setting over the place .. giving it that beautiful red glow ....

Hobby ? Never - it's too much a part of me to be such.

Maybe when I go to that 'other place' - I have a Viking Funeral ? Seems fitting ...
