Still relevant today ?
MoBo Skipper came back from a trip with VP 41B engine wheezing away and clouds of black soot covering the stern.
At least 12 experts gave 13 reasons for the problem inc blocked filters, duff turbo etc , the boat had been meticulously maintained previously since purchase even to extent of cleaning the fuel tanks.
Eventually , having gone up all the wrong alleys, it was concluded that the injectors might be the cause of the problems.
The owner , no mechanical wizard , was reluctant to DIY.
In the end he borrowed some extractor or other, removed all six injectors and took them to an old fashioned injector workshop not far away and watched as the owner demonstrated the spray patterns of the injectors.
A couple were virtually hosing neat diesel but all were repairable and bought back into servicable condition.
All now reinstalled and functioning as they should, mystery is why they gave up the ghost so abruptly.

If your engine is running lumpy on tick-over I would suggest as a first pass filling up a little tank with 25% Diesel to 75% diesel fuel system cleaner and running that through first. How many people just put diesel in without throwing some fuel system cleaner in their tank.!

None whatever, but it may contribute to the sum of knowledge concerning injectors in general. I thought the thread has already drifted - there seem to be contributions about other makes/models than the OPs.
Helpful to this forum member as I have a vp2002 and was reading this post in a general way....as you do. Thanks 😊

Hi. I am currently trying to remove a rusted injector from my 1GM10.
Is there a chance I can borrow your puller? Happy to cover the postage costs.
Wonder if he still has it 11 years later...

Edit - realise I was beaten to it on this observation. 🙄
