In a couple of weeks time I am due to go away on the boat for our usual hols during August. The weather has been so bad that I am almost ready to write this season off! seriously thinking to hell with it and grabbing a flight to anywhere where the sun does shine!

Anyone thinking the same? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Yep, the rest of the family certainly favour spending at least one of our two weeks off in August somewhere sunny.

Yup, thinking of flying to the South of france to do an ICC/Powerboat 2 in the sunshine.

Thinking of buying a new boat, don't know if:
a) it's worth is at all as I won't get to use it this year
or
b) ideal time to buy because I'll get a huge discount...

Yes agree with you, sold boat about 2 months ago been looking for another but have asked myself many times, if I had got another straight away how many times would I have used it, probably once and thats it.

Already been on one hot holiday, the way things are going it will be another next month, then the season is nearly over, still one good thing, had bank statement today and the interest on my boat money is looking fine, shame the weather isnt!.

Me well no the weather might be scrap but i will make the best of it business has not been good and we have had to cancel our annual break in kinsale see my holiday for sale thread

Imight just do some local cruising here on the thames maybe a few days upstream and sleeping on board with miniskip or if finances improve a little maybe a trip to the solent yarmouth IOW see my cousin richard and family I think the former is more likely though

Its not just the money right now but devoting time pulling everything together so my money is on a trip upstream so watch out byron and the thames lot !!!!!!

I'm still recovering from an operation and haven't re-launched our boat yet from last winter. I'm now seriously wondering whether I should bother or just leave her in her cradle and go off and find some sunshine somewhere!

I'm with you on this one , already been out a few times and due out again next weekend , it's the UK , if you go out expecting bad weather and get good it's a bonus , no reason to sell up and move on , mind you it would be good if I got my own boats back on the water too /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

To me it is just fun that is being curtailed. I feel sorry for those whose livelihoods are being threatened/destroyed by this weather. I know as I used to be one of them.

Always two sides to the weather. My customers are enjoying a bonanza in the wet weather - video games retailers - whereas the weather in N Wales has been remarkable good most weekends.

I'm not complaining.

It's not just the UK. We've just returned from a week staying with friends in the Dordogne. The weather was VERY unsettled, and the locals are all asking when Summer will arrive. It's to do with the jetstream being extremely vigorous evidently, and too far South to allow the Azores high to influence the UK weather.

Supposed to all change for the better at the end of the month.

No, I'm on the boat at the mo and having a ball /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif It's a state of mind thing. OK it's not last summer, but the good days are still very enjoyable.

When are you lot gonna slow down on the gas needs? Mind you two more years you can still burn as much as you want, then I wont give a stuff!

well today we start our three week cruise to Cornwall and back.
Or rather ,we dont. Plan is to take few days at the marina, and then just forget the boat and go to Cornwall anyway. If the weather inproves, we ll come back and get it.
Havent used it for 6 weeks now, and yes, have begun to think this simply isnt worth it.
Still, get some good days and...!!

We spent 2 weeks in Malta, 2nd week it pi55ed down! Hired a little speed boat and took it back early due to 5'-6' waves, bit scary! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Met up with Dreamtime and had a pint or two (outside in the wind as all bars non smoking!) /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Giving up on the Bristol Chanel and going inland for the weekend - up the river to Bath, and take in some culture, or more likely some lager!
Hope it doesn't rain to much! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I wouldn't write off this year yet but after last August I was requested to make other arrangements for our main holiday this year - so we are away in the middle of August on a rag and stick in the Aegean.

this bodes well for other on the south coast in august I suspect.............. I couldn't be that lucky

Hell on Earth or the smell of Suncream.

Sunshine is alright in small UK doses, but the merest thought of roasting for hour on end day after day and being unable to do anything interesting until the blessed relief of evening finally hoves into view is more than enough to keep me well clear of foreign parts until winter takes a firm grip.
Nothing quite like the rattle of sleet on the living room window. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
