Hi Nigel,

Have to agree that for facilities offered (i.e. none) Kilmore Quay is not the best - particularly when you consider that it is more expensive than Bangor or Howth . As you say, it is council-run. Marinas should be run by sailors, IMHO. It's a pity, because Kilmore Quay is a lovely place with the friendliest people we met anywhere in Ireland, and it's such a convenient passage harbour - I believe Dunmore East is getting very crowded now.

Dingle was similar to Kilmore in that it is a council facility run by a non-sailor (albeit a jovial one) who made us move unnecessarily when we had just finished tying up after an exhausting passage, then gave us a two-number security code for the gate and told us the toilets were closed at half past ten because everyone knew the number! Dingle was more reasonably priced than KQ though.

Best marinas on our trip were Bangor for helpful staff, cleanliness and value, Howth for a nice setting, good services and easy access to Dublin, and Lawrence Cove for being unique, peaceful and beautiful.

Am in the process of putting our log on the web at <font size=1><A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.bluemoment.com>http://www.bluemoment.com</font size=1>

For €2.00 for a W/E Dunluggery has to be the best

But you have to know how to do a slight bit of juggling to enter the harbour to know what to do next to arrive at the pontoon after having been given the correct instructions (etc) to walk up to the 1st floor office to be greeted with "It should be free but the insurance company has insisted that we make a token charge ...."

It's also just €3.00 return on the City Dart to Tara Street where it's but a short walk to Temple Bar an all an all an all at the ever present ceilidh at the Oliver St John Gogarty where the guinness flows free ...
