Irish Hooker....BBC ALBA tonight 2100

Series features a Galway Hooker, Naomh Bairbre (St Barbara) a traditional sailing craft design from these parts on a trip from the west of Ireland southabout via the Isle of Man to Scotlands western isles, around the north coast and home thru' the Caledonian Canal and Irelands north coast. The boat was built a few years ago by an emigrant in Chicago and sailed home via the Great Lakes and transatlantic.

Sailed a hooker across the Atlantic? Mental!
Some trivia: when Connemara men went to Boston in the 19th Century, they brought the design of these boats with them, they became Boston Hookers or Irish Cutters.
They're much loved iconic boats around these parts.
