Ireland's newest marina...

The nicest places in Ireland for Welch and west of England boaters to visit are on the south coast rather than the boreing east coast with caravan park marinas. Instead recommend places like Waterford, Kilmore Quay, Dunmore East, Kinsale, Cork, and all the little harbours along the south coast are so much more interesting and scenic. First staging port of call for many uk visitors is Kilmore quay on route to south coast.

Was for me last year but....... that coast like the West is very weather dependent.

I got as far as Kilmore then was fog bound for 3 days. First time I have seen fog down to 100m and 20-25 knt winds  mind you the pub was good :(

Hi Tom
Kilmore Quay is a good fuel and provisioning base for leisure vessels crossing the Irish sea. The Wexford coast like the east coast is flat boring and featureless, but go west as far as the Cork coast and you have numerous weather friendly treasures, amazing scenery, all still on the sheltered south coast of Ireland with low swell compared to the Atlantic west coast past the Fastnet. Cork is the centre of Ireland's leisure boating activity and the most popular cruising region. Cork harbour itself is a vast area with numerous destinations including Crosshaven, Drakes pool, Cobh (titanic museum), Fota island, East Ferry marina and Cork city centre jetties.

Do a google and see how much opposition there was before PP was granted.

UPDATE :

But don't be disappointed, it doesn't look like as wonderful as the artist's impression from 2008 !

Yes the new harbour was built, but not the planned surrounding development, landscaping nor village square due to the recession. So possibly a sort of limbo, probably with good berthage, but in the middle of an unfinished and rather bare development eyesore. Pity it could have been so pretty had the development been completed.
