On my last boat I fitted a car alarm system after a break-in/ theft. When new boat arrives I will want to fit an alarm system. Is there anything around on the market or should I source a car alarm and fit it?

I fitted a micro switch to the main hatch attached to the ` internal screamer ` from a domestic burglar system ( bought from diy shop) to a 12v battery ( the type that fits in alarm systems from alarm shop ) with a key switch operated externaly or in locker. Circuit simple, switch open when hatch closed and key closed, if hatch is opened the screamer is that loud you cannot put your head in cabin so key-switch must be operated before opening hatch. only have to charge battery about twice a season.

We used a small domestic house alarm. It has a remote keypad to disable that we mounted on the electronics panel. The system has a built in entry and exit delay. The main box was mounted out of sight and connected to the boat's 12 volt system. It has a pre-alarm beeper in the keypad and we wired the main alarm contacts to the air horns solenoid. We used an infrared motion detector pointing across the main salon at the companion way as the detector.
