Insuring equipment not actually on the boat.

Presumably an engine only becomes covered by the boat's insurance when it is installed. I will be collecting a new engine from Beta Marine in a few weeks and driving it down to the boatyard where it will sit in it's protective covering until actually installed in the boat. Just wondered if anyone been in the same situation and what insurance you used?

Definitely, but the key thing will be where exactly it's going to "sit". Be prepared to be disappointed or have conditions applied. Would you underwrite several £k-worth of kit left lying around on a pallet? I wouldn't.

Goods in transit ? You probably need to discuss with a broker who might place you your risk with a larger broker or via Lloyds syndicate as they tend to have a wider appetite for non standard risks . Do let us know results of research
