Insurance

Having sailed for many years in other peoples boats I have taken the plunge and decided to purchase my own.
I have arranged a Safety Certificate for the craft and will be looking for insurance next.
The moorings I am looking at require liability of a minimum of £1m, (British Waterways).

PROBLEM. I am unable to identify the manufacturer of the boat. Its an E-Boat with modified keel. The lifting keel has been removed and it now has a fixed keel.

Can anyone direct me in obtaining insurance?

Why not try Bishop Skinner - the RYA Insurers; My experience with them over 10 years has been very good and includes one major claim which was dealt with very quickly and well. They are very pleasant and flexible. Telephone number is 020 7566 5800 ask for Yacht Insurance Department

Agreed - Whether or not you go with Bishop Skinner, you'll get the quicker solution by posing the question to an Insurer - I think a number of people produced eboats and I thought they were also available for self-completion so you shouldn't be the first one with this problem.

Most E boats were built by Production Yachts in Glenrothes, Fife. If you have the sail number or boat name. why not contact Jock Blair in the Bosins Locker at Port Edgar near Edinburgh. There is also a E-boat web site.

Particularly if the keel has been modified I think you will find that most insurers will require a survey, and you are almost certainly wise to commission one anyway for your own peace of mind, prior to purchase of course. The Boat Safety Scheme inspection can be carried out with the keel lying on the bed of the river and the bolt holes bunged up with chewing gum. It will also tell you absolutely nothing about the condition of the hull, skin fittings, bilge pump arrangements etc.

Is this the EBoat with the wing keel that was in a yard on the Hamble?? As a EBoat owner that has just sold my boat, I saw this EB and wondered how it would sail compared with the standard boat (which is wonderful) If is is this boat I might know a little about it
One thing that was a great plus on the standard EB was that with 10 inch draught it will sail on a wet lawn with the keel up. Try the Eboat web site/association.

The E-Boat I have purchased is about 600miles North of the Hamble but nice to know there is another out there.
Looks like a professional job on my keel. Draught is probably around 0.9 of a meter with a bulb.
