Insurance

I think it would helpful if people explain what is included in the quote, e.g with Y there is extra cost for civil disturbance/terrorism, third party cover up from standard £3m to £5m and so on, these extra can add hundreds to the quote, and some insurers include it as standard.

The Y policy details are on their website.
Legal expenses cover and third party cover is included.

I think you are missing my point, when people get a quote it can include extras, but not mentioned when posted on this forum. Personally well aware of Y policy and a few others, e.g. standard third party, Y £3m, GJW £5m (whether you need £5m is another question); to match it cost an extra £50, personal accident £15k (Y), £20k (GJW). I think you get my point.

I agree
Its very important to understand all that .

eg with some legal cost cover is extra = included with Y

Hi folks what’s the average cost these days to insure a 100k motor boat with a top speed of 30 knots ?
I have not owned a boat now for 4 years so I doubt any previous no claims will count , although I have an unblemished no claims status.
Try craftinsure Paul they do online quotes and are competitive. I’ve used them for years. 3 claims and they’ve always been very good there too.

Legal expenses have been a bit contentious recently as many insurers are only offering limited price based legal cover, e.g. £200,000 worth and they select the solicitors you have to use; in many cases the companies they appoint are actually rubbish and do very little for a guaranteed fee and this doesn't only apply to marine.

Thankyou everyone for your Input .
At the moment the demand for good quality used boats is still outstripping supply , the prices are sky high , I’d say now up to 30% more on uk built favourites from 4 years ago so sadly at the moment I am not going to purchase , I am looking but window shopping as they say .
Boats around the 80 to 150k Mark are selling very quickly at near asking price judging by the sea trials and inspections I am doing .
Some not all of the boats are tatty , require work one had osmosis yet it still sold , I’m not that desperate to get back on the water .

Thanks all enjoy the summer and hope this day boating restraint is lifted very soon .

Made two claims with online companies Saga and Craftinsure.
Both paid up promptly without fuss. Premiums a worthwhile saving compared to broker on commision insurance.
Craftinsure sold me a policy with exactly the same cover and company quoted by a broker, but charged about 20% less.
