Any tips regarding insurance for liveaboards. I have one quote (Haven-Knox Johnston) and they want the boat ashore from Nov-March. I don't expect to be out so long! Is this the rule, or?What do you UK liveaboards do?

It is usually inconvenient for a liveaboard to be out the water for any length of time, even if you are well organised with holding tanks, power supply etc.

Try other insurers. Most will offer 12 months afloat at a small premium - the osmosis risk is yours.

Incidentally standard marine insurance conditions exclude houseboats, but not generally liveaboards (one does not imply the other). 'Fraid I've no idea about houseboats, if that is where you should be living.

Try these people - Max is the man - http://www.yachtmasterinsurance.co.uk

One of the reasons Pantaenius used to be so good was everyone in the office knew about boats - half the people you talk to who advertise yacht insurance know little of nothing.... They all work on a percentage of the declared value of the boat. I have never been required to lay up ashore for a given period but have sometimes been offered better rates if I did - naturally the risk is lower!
