We were thinking about wintering in Turkey next year but I have been told by two people that you have to have to buy health insurance for each person on the boat.
That just does not sound right.
Can anyone who is in Turkey or has been there in the past clarify if you need anything additional to your own boat insurance.
Thanks.

The answer depends on how long you intend to stay and / or if you intend to get a residence permit.

The visa is valid for 90 days in 180 days. So you could go to Turkey, sail abit, park up your boat and leave the country on day 90 (fly home to UK etc). Come back 90 days later get new Visa and sail round again for 90 days etc. etc. Now under this scheme you do not need any Health Insurance etc. However, you should be aware that Turkey is not part of the EU so your E111 does not apply there. Private hospitals are expensive.

If on the other hand you want to take up residency then as part of that you need to have Health Insurance. Other threads cover all that is involved in getting residency for Turkey.

We live on our boat full time and do not have a house back in the UK so we need to stay on the boat. It is looking increasingly like Turkey is not going to be a place we will winter in next year although I have heard its neighbour Syria has become pretty cheap of late and the UK and America have added load of extra flights.

Those military aircraft are inherently unstable and provide a most uncomfortable flight -
I'd advise flying by other means - I understand a "magic carpet" is about to be introduced by Tesco Direct, something to do with time warp and space woof...

We nearly found another way. We got a warning tonight a twister was expected over us. Military and all services were on alert. As it was we had perfect calm. Guess I have to take the red shoes off now and kick toto out.

Private hospitals are expensive.

They are not expensive. My wife had a serious operation performed here in the private system a couple of years ago, and it was a third of what we would have paid in the UK, and the care and professionalism were simply excellent. They also have a state system which foreigners pay for. We had some x-rays done, for less than a tenner and they gave us the film too.
