Insurance for pedal bikes.

My understanding is that bicycles can be added to the insurance policy under "personal equipment" on board but, for most of us, it'd come down to the excess? In our case £500 and Bridget cost just under half that.

Thanks very much for your response. I tried my insurer but their underwriter wont take the risk with the bikes. Same result for lap top also

My fold-away bike cost £139.95 from Halfords and is far, far lighter to pick-up and carry that a Brompton. It has 6 gears and has gone rusty just like all bikes will do on cruising yachts.

As you will find out, there is an excess to pay which would cost more than a bike.

ps: The Apollo (Halfords) bike now costs about £180 the last time I saw the price.

For not much over £200 I got a good Dahon Curve from eBay. The frame is aluminium, and I chose a model with a hub gear, so no exposed rear cogs to rust. It's survived well in AB's foc'sle. Frankly I find insurance simpler with a large excess! But then I have bitten the bullet and reduced to 3rd party only!!

Mine are covered under my home contents policy - the bikes as a separate item with an excess of £50. One of the bikes (a Trek) has a considerable replacement value, having a carbon-fibre frame.

Lap-top, when nicked from my boat in Msida was covered by GJ&W as part of the "navigation equipment". On that occasion it was a very small part of a fairly large claim.
